Cutting benefits does not create jobs - it creates poverty.
The Labour Party was built to stand with working class people, that has always included the unemployed and disabled.
There is no need for a penny in cuts - it's time for a wealth tax, not more austerity!
Along with Scope and 15 other charities, we've signed an open letter to the Chancellor urging her to think again on cutting disability benefits.
Disability benefits are often vital to enabling someone with a vision impairment to live the life they choose.

Over 650,000 of you signed our petition to save the #WinterFuelPayment for struggling pensioners.
Last week, we presented the petition to the Government. Hear what our older campaigners had to say about the day, and how the cuts have affected them.
So proud to be here with so many older people, calling on the Government to save the the Winter Fuel Payment for struggling pensioners.
Thank you to everyone that signed or shared the petition!

Thank you to you all for your support 💜
Millions of us were hoping the Chancellor would not ignore social care in the Budget.
Unfortunately, @hmtreasury made some decisions that will make it harder for people to get the care they need.

Our thoughts on today's #AutumnBudget announcements:
1) Nothing in the Budget changes the plight of the 4 in 5 pensioners on low & modest incomes set to lose their Winter Fuel Payment this year when they can’t afford to do so, & that’s a HUGE disappointment. ⬇️
Last week, more than 60 older and disabled people, unpaid carers, CSA members and care professionals met to stand up for #SocialCare.
Everyone agreed: We can’t afford for social care to be ignored in the #Budget. (1/2)
Let’s change how we age 💜
Today, we’re launching our new campaign aimed at changing the way we age.
From providing specialist, impartial advice to research and campaigning, we want to change the lives of older people now and in the future.

Next stop #TalkingBuses! After years of campaigning, the requirement for buses to have next stop and final-destination audio-visual (AV) announcements is being phased in.
We’re very disappointed the Government has voted to cut the Winter Fuel Payment but they still have a responsibility to struggling pensioners.
We won’t stop campaigning for people like Lalita and Derek who need support this #winter.

The Winter Fuel Payment is vital in helping older people to afford their energy bills in winter.
They shouldn't have to feel like they must choose between heating and eating. But for many older people like Janice, this is their reality.

Unexpected withdrawal of the Winter Fuel Payment and Ofgem's energy cap increase of 10% will leave many older people like Elaine struggling to get by this winter.

Please sign our petition and share it with your friends - in solidarity with the c.2 million pensioners who we estimate will be really hurt by this policy change and for whom getting through the winter unscathed will be a bigger challenge as a result. Thanks!
Have to confess to being somewhat irked by affluent economists saying means-testing Winter Fuel Payment is the right thing to do, with no regard to the impact on those poor & vulnerable pensioners who will really struggle as a result. It's alright for some!
"I’m 74 now and one day me and my husband might need extra help looking after my mum." Today we're focusing on older carers.
We want to share Asha's story of caring for her mother at 74 years old.
Thank you to Asha and @age_uk for sharing this story. https://t.co/7rLtxnqnFl
