Our hearts are heavy as we share the story of my younger sister Modurotoluwa Adefowoju, a bright, loving, and courageous 16 year old girl whose life has been turned upside down by acute leukemia. She was initially misdiagnosed in 2023 with JSLE (Junior Lupus) and spent over 13 months treating the wrong disease. Just a few months ago, Modurotoluwa was full of laughter, dreams, and plans for her future as a Cybersecurity expert. Today, she is fighting for her life. After weeks of tests and hospital stays, she was diagnosed with a severe form of blood cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia, that requires urgent and intensive treatment. She has endured countless rounds of painful chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and long days in the hospital. Her doctors have now recommended that she undergo a bone marrow transplant the only hope for a lasting cure. Unfortunately, this life saving procedure is not available in Nigeria. Our family has been advised to continue treatment and proceed to India for advanced care and transplant. The total cost of treatment, travel, and recovery is estimated at $70,000 far beyond what our parents can afford. Through all of this, Modurotoluwa has remained incredibly brave. • Provide overall leadership and direction for the Nigeria Country Programme, ensuring activities are aligned with organisational strategy and standards.
• Lead programme planning, implementation, monitoring and learning to achieve objectives and outcomes.
• Integrate conflict sensitivity, Do No Harm, gender equality and social inclusion into all programme interventions.
• Mentor, supervise and support programme staff, promoting teamwork and professional growth.
• Build and maintain relationships with government authorities, civil society, community leaders and relevant stakeholders.
• Represent International Alert in coordination platforms, technical forums and policy discussions.
• Identify and manage programme, operational and security risks, ensuring compliance with organisational and donor requirements.
• Oversee programme budgets, resource allocation and financial reporting to ensure transparency and value for money.
• Support adaptive management by using monitoring data and evidence to inform programme improvements.
• Support documentation and reporting, including high-quality narrative and results-based reports.

Requirements/qualification 🎓
• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, international development, peace and conflict studies, or related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Minimum of six years of progressive experience in programme or project management, preferably in peacebuilding, governance, or development contexts.
• Demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership and managing complex programs.
• Strong track record engaging with diverse stakeholders, including government, donors, UN agencies and civil society.
• Experience in integrating conflict sensitivity, gender inclusion, safeguarding, and adaptive learning into programme design and delivery.
• Proven skills in financial oversight, budgeting, compliance and donor reporting.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and travel regularly within Nigeria; occasional international travel may be required.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (e.g., Hausa) is an added advantage.
