@petergourri@GerBrowne4 My father stayed on in RAF until 1948. He had no problem when he came back to Dublin and walked straight into a good job because of his experience. He still talks fondly of the experience and friendships he made (he’s 99 this year)
@ww2research@IrishTimes@RMcGreevy1301 Hi Joseph, my father joined the RAF in 1945 and served til 1948 as a fitter/mechanic. He is now 98 and still remembers and talks about his time in the RAF. If you are interested in chatting to him, he is still relatively healthy and compos mentis, get in touch with me
@McNamaraMEP please stop fake information on new 60km speed limits. L roads only affected not R roads. In north Clare we are overrun by tourist traffic on L roads due to 80km limit and satnav
@BetterEnnis Thank you. @McNamaraMEP is sending out misinformation on this. L roads in north Clare are overrun by tourist through traffic affecting farmers, cyclists and walkers due to 80km limit and satnav
@McNamaraMEP please stop misinformation on new 60km limits in Clare. L roads will have speed limits reduced. NOT ALL rural roads are affected. L roads, NOT R roads. This will help farmers, pedestrians and cyclists as it will divert tourist traffic away from single track roads
So we rural tourism businesses have been suffering for 2 seasons from a lack of refugee accommodation, closing our local hostels and hotels which are our key sources of business to tourists, but it only hits the headlines when it affects Dublin 4.
UHL hospital a disaster. My 96 yr old father has spent 2 nights on trolley fully clothed in corridor of ward under Covid restrictions, he did not have Covid when he went in, meanwhile there are people in pyjamas outside the hospital smoking cigarettes who obviously have beds.
@PaulTreyvaud We are decimated in County Clare. My activity business is down more than 50 percent since 2019, while a local owner of 4 hotels has pocketed more than 100 million. 50pc of our tourism beds gone, prices now €170 per room bed only
1 hotel in Drogheda closed to tourists and a huge fuss made. Lisdoonvarna, once a tourist town now has 4 hotels , one hostel and a group of self catering houses closed to tourists and our TDs and councillors just put up with it. Our tourism is destroyed
Will someone tell Mary Fitzpatrick (laughably @votemaryfitz ) that Bord Failte has not existed since 2003? Just like the rest of her party she is more than 20 years out of date. FFS.
My very negative experience of Irish Ferries discrimination against cyclists, in this video log https://t.co/hZGTKpK8m0 (after a lovely few days with friends in South Wales)
@keira_con And all of us small tourism businesses will close too. We depend on people staying locally. In 5 years time Irelands rural tourism will be back to where it was over 20 years ago.
