FREE TO READ: A another twist in the Eagle S drama underway in Finland. The lawyer for cable-cutting Russia-linked tanker and 'spy ship' Eagle S has applied to overturn the seizure order.

Finnish maritime lawyer Herman Ljungberg told Lloyd’s List that the tanker, escorted into the inner anchorage of Svartbäck over the weekend, is not built for winter conditions and it was in the best interests to let the tanker and its gasoline cargo sail to its destination.

He's acting for Caravella, the single-ship, registered owner whose address is the business centre of a five-star hotel in Dubai.

��My instructions do not come from Russia,” Ljungberg said. “I just want to fix this problem. We have a tanker in the Finnish archipelago now seized and I think it’s in everybody’s interest to let her [Eagle S] sail away to her destination.

“The vessel is not built for winter conditions, the ice is coming now and I’m afraid it will cause huge problems. Who will take care of the vessel and cargo?”

updated this evening, the Helsinki police department, carrying out the investigation with the Boarder Guard Service contributing, said that suspected offenses were aggravated criminal mischief and aggravated interference of communications.
