@polyralsei ...emotionally attached would only get in the way of what he had to do. But I feel like things started to change when he met Gero. There are moments when Gero genuinely catches Mei off guard and brings out emotions that Mei has kept buried deep inside for a long time.

@polyralsei I really hope the story explores Mei’s perspective more. I keep wondering what it was like for him to make money from such a young age, constantly having to play different roles, and then continuing to do so even as he grew older. Did he ever actually feel happy or experience ..

@polyralsei Actually, I feel like Mei has been trying from the very beginning to simply carry out the Doll User’s request: to help Gero successfully get married, which is also what Gero himself wanted. But as the story goes on, things are clearly becoming much more complicated than that.

@polyralsei If it really turns out that Mei was abused when she was little, I think my heart would completely break. It feels like Mei has always pushed aside her own pain and personal trauma, so maybe over time she started to normalize being hurt or being taken advantage of by other people

@polyralsei ...he was lying about it or telling the truth, but I personally think he was telling the truth. I feel like maybe, as Mei gets older, he might turn to scamming guys to make money more easily, possibly even by selling his body. Thinking about it that way is honestly really sad

@polyralsei Mei could have simply donated his heart to his little brother, but I think he was afraid that he would be left all alone afterward, especially since he was still so young at the time. So I think what Mei really wanted was not only to save his brother, but also to stay by his side

@polyralsei Mei was still so young, yet he had already been forced to grow up so quickly. Even when he first met the Doll User, he was absolutely terrified, but he had to use all the experience he had gained to force himself to look cheerful and introduce as s.o from a rental child service

@polyralsei I stopped following this manga for a while, and when I found out that today’s chapter was going to reveal Mei’s backstory, I was really excited. But after I finished reading it... I just sat there thinking for a while
