Today, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and courage of women everywhere; especially those on their eating difficulty or eating disorder recovery journey. At First Steps ED, we stand with women and girls, empowering them to find freedom, self-love, and support. 🌸
On the 4th of December in 1865, Edith Cavell was born. 153 years later on her birthday, we remember her legacy as a British nurse, brave leader, and wartime hero. We continue to honour her values by caring for nursing and midwifery staff today. Happy birthday Edith! 🎂

Today we’ll be delivering this message to parliament to be sent to this young person’s MP. It’s just one of 700 messages submitted to us by young people and their allies.
MPs need to know what young people are going through. It’s time to give them a reality check.
Hi, my name is Paddy, and today I went to parliament with YoungMinds. Today was a big day— a big day for me and a big day for young people at home. I held in my hands the stories of over 700 young people and their allies, speaking about how hard it is to be a young person today. I delivered these letters to parliament so that your words and stories are now in the hands of MPs.
To every single person who shared their story, I am so grateful for you. I want you to know that your words have power, and they truly matter. MPs need to know what is going on, and by sharing your story, you have given them a reality check they cannot ignore. It is time young people's voices are heard. It’s time for MPs to understand the challenges young people are facing and to address the root causes behind the mental health crisis.
Although it might not feel like it, I know there is hope. I know that change is possible. You deserve a world that supports your mental health, and I know that world exists.
After today, I firmly believe that together, we can rewrite our future.

1.25 million people have an eating disorder.
1 in 5 die.
Those with severe and enduring eating disorders (5+ years) are told they will never recover and dropped by the system.
More support, more funding.

A good start to a Monday 😝
In all seriousness, it is still a bugbear of mine that the default is to assume someone needs to be have a doctorate (at least!) in order to be a creator of knowledge in the form of academic publications. We need to loosen up!
The idea that stigma towards eating disorder patients is isolated to “non-mental health” healthcare professionals is a TOTAL mismatch with lived/living experiences.
