@JAMESHOLT214968 AI has definitely been a useful tool, but there are still specific AI technologies that have caused great concern and push for regulation, such as scam calls, deepfake, and more.
@kd747scar1234 Another interesting part to consider is how screentime only measures our phone usage—just imagine how much it would reflect if we factored in TV, computer usage, etc.
#ipadbaby is an example of social dilemma that contributes to community and social media addiction affecting behavior, learning, and social skills. This is more critical of current parenting and or lack of parenting, rather than the child themself #RUVirtual90#RutgersDCIM
@kokopuffs2325 Interesting to see how the graphics of games might have contributed to this due to more diverse representations both in the game studios from creators as well as learning new techniques that allow for more accurate renderings of poc features
@EllaSblano91703 Would be interested to see any research that discussed the development of #gamergirl into the more contemporary “e-girl” of 2019-2020 and the differences in female autonomy vs. critiques for “pick-me” stereotypes against the male lens
The objectification and sexualization of women within the Gamergate reading left minors out of the discussion—this shows another layer to the real victims of toxic gaming culture, downplaying pedophilia as meme material and dark humor #RUVirtual90#RutgersDCIM
I saw a guy wearing this shirt at IndyPopCon this morning. Combined with all the ahegao merchandise, you could write a fucking masters thesis on toxic masculinity and pedophilia in geek culture just by three days of casual observation.
@EdemEma138 Going through the thread is so interesting to see different perspectives on activism in 2023. I feel like BLM was so successful but now it’s harder to mobilize and get through an oversaturated media market where consumerism is high and so is performative activism/online personas.
@kokopuffs2325 This is a great example of a community that most people aren’t typically truly aware of or strongly advocate for. We take many things for granted & can be ableist about without even realizing because it doesn’t “apply” to us but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t educate ourselves more
AS A TRANS WOMAN:
I often deal with about three hate crimes a week. This is about enough to de-sensitive those close to me as a nearly daily occurrence attributed to knowing me. It's like a character trait, except "she just gets attacked all the time" is the feature.
@SidneyDes1234 People like Dylan provide the platform for trans support by sharing experiences openly, even walking through a lot of things that people would not typically have the right resources to explore comfortably/confidently on their own + at the same time promoting inclusion & advocacy
@plaut43109 I agree that the broadening of the hashtag opens up the opportunity for the entire community to have their experiences feel seen and validated. Visibility is the key component of the # because it centers on advocacy

+ Additionally, over the years #tinderbios became less about facts about yourself, but rather humorous and quirky enough / equivalent to a pick up line
This relates to the self-commodification and self-branding concept on Tinder which is essentially “marketing” yourself online to increase appeal and attraction. Profiles are meant to be the “best” and attractive version of yourself to draw people in #RUVirtual90#RutgersDCIM
@kokopuffs2325@AuranJackson@DrProudman Women experience assault & violence even if they say no which is frightening + SA can happen in broad daylight, in public, and yet society’s bystander effect makes it hard for women to get help or justice & feel safe. I recall the story about the victim on the SEPTA train…
#MeToo gives visibility to SA victims. It not only brings light to the “false accusations” side, but recognizes how damaging, irreparable, & traumatizing SA can be and by calling out abusers it prevents further violence & creates a safe space for victims #RUVirtual90#RutgersDCIM
Rape is not just a singularly horrifying act.
Rape is also a culture that amplifies misogynist tropes, vilifies victims, coddles predators, and silences survivors. This is the heartbreaking result.
#RIPRachelImaniBuckner
This is why we must never stop saying #MeToo
Excited to revisit and learn more about #BlackLivesMatter in #RUVirtual23#RutgersDCIM in the upcoming weeks and throughout the semester. I’m thinking of potentially researching #StopAsianHate alongside this as well to view similarities, differences, and its effectiveness.
Especially with the first one, I certainly look at technology through a different lens and find myself more interested when I read about newer technologies because I can look at them from the perspective of disruption and emergence criteria. (2/2) #DigiTechS23B
Since we are wrapping up the semester, my two biggest takeaways from the Disruptive Technology course is (1) identifying disruptive technology and its impact, (2) how fascinating & intricate facial technology has become based on my EDTP research! (1/2) #DigiTechS23B
