It is not an argument for unlimited immigration - 1B Indian immigrants would not benefit growth

It is an argument against indolence and freeloading. It's a better look to earn a job than to beg for one.

@CaptGTaylor @jaynordlinger This is a zero-sum / fixed mindset and it supports lowering the bar. If the bar raises, America will be more productive, and vice versa. If America is more productive, there will be more jobs. Attack leaders who limit growth rather than individuals who raise the bar.

Also giving racism a voice doesn't mean there is political traction - it just means a vocal minority believes they can be more vocal.

@avidseries Excellence isn't under threat because <15% of people represent < 12% of college enrollees at non-HBCUs. Every demo except Asians flattened or declined in academic proficiency (math & reading) vs. 20 years ago. There are bigger fish to fry than your white whale (puns intended).

Agree stoicism works - best advice may be to avoid exposure to unhelpful comps and focus instead on progress.

@abemurray @GremlinIndustry @bryan_caplan Also it’s an odd thing to make comparisons to generations past when humans are and have always compared to their peers in their assessments of economic safety. Why not go to a logical extreme and not simply compare to 300k years ago? Because that would arguably be disingenuous.

@abemurray @GremlinIndustry @bryan_caplan I don’t think you have evidence that people didn’t complain or worry, which is a completely human thing to do. Also preaching to others that they should be thankful when you have more is not going to be particularly convincing or empathetic.

Mike Macdonald reveals that before he got into the NFL he spent 2 years begging Georgia for a job, he would show up to their football offices everyday asking for an opportunity, then eventually just took out a loan to work for free

@justinskycak Picasso is a perfect example. Strict/rigorous classical training from his professor father, Barcelona Academy, and the Royal Academy before breaking the mold with cubism, assemblage, blue period, etc.
