Preseason #4 Michigan State has started 4-5 for the first time since 2004.

Oddly enough, another year where they were ranked inside the AP Top 4 in the pre-season.

The Spartans finished that season 18-12, losing in the Round of 64.

Why is this a tweet? Let me take you back to April of this year.

Michigan State was a basket away from an Elite 8 appearance in the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Spartans made the Sweet 16 by way of beating #6 Marquette.

Michigan State was ranked #4 in this years preseason poll, but it didn’t even last a week, as they lost to James Madison at home.

The Spartans were thought to be the second best team in the Big Ten behind Zach Edey and Purdue, due to returning pieces and incoming Freshman.

Michigan State’s 2023 Class (#5 NATL) consisted of:
