It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our founder and former CEO, Dr. Greg Powell on April 30, 2025.

A visionary, a leader, and a life-saver, the seed of Dr. Powell’s legacy began with a day’s visit to a MASH Unit in Saigon during the Vietnam War and grew into what STARS is today—a lifeline for patients in need of critical care, no matter where they are.

Driven by compassion and an unwavering commitment to patient care, Dr. Powell helped change the way emergency medical care is delivered in Canada. His vision became a reality that continues to save lives every day.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Powell’s family and loved ones. His loss is deeply felt across our STARS family, the many communities we serve and the numerous organizations with which Greg was involved. Greg was an inspirational voice and leader across many organizations – a lasting impact of his life’s work.

BREAKING: Emergency crews and multiple air ambulances are responding to a serious crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Carberry, Manitoba, according to the Manitoba RCMP.

According to CTV News, at least 15 people were killed in the crash.

According to the RCMP, the crash occurred near Highway 1 and Highway 5, near Carberry, a community two hours west of Winnipeg.
