Mr. Naito Korin is a Buddhist monk. At the same time, he is also an artist and owns his own art gallery. People even refer to him as the “Michelangelo of the Obaku sect” of Buddhism.

However, beyond this introduction, his true identity is that of a very kind and loving person. He also possesses a very positive and accurate understanding of Islam.

He extended remarkable kindness and affection toward us, in part because we come from the historic land of Gandhara—once a great center of Buddhist civilization, and the very region from which Buddhist monks first journeyed to Japan to spread their faith.

We now look forward with anticipation to the fulfillment of his promise to visit #TheJapanMosque , and to the honor of welcoming and hosting him there.

“No doubt, @Pontifex, Prophet Jesus was truly the King of Peace, and Prophet Moses stood firmly against oppression. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him all), the founder of Islam, was also a messenger of peace & mercy. One can only hope their followers reflect on these teachings—or at least refrain from attributing oppression to these sacred figures.

Built in 1661 by the Chinese high priest Ingen Zenji, this temple is famous for its elegant Chinese-style architecture — a unique cultural treasure.

We are truly grateful to Reverend Araki for warmly welcoming us to the headquarters and for expressing such positive and heartfelt thoughts about Islam. His open-minded spirit was a beautiful example of mutual respect and interfaith goodwill.

The Obaku school continues to spread the peaceful and compassionate teachings of Gautama Buddha across Japan, touching lives with messages of non-violence and inner peace.
