Tokyo 2027 – Building Bridges Through Chess and Culture 🇯🇵♟️🇩🇪
Today in Tokyo, we reached an important agreement to organize a series of international chess tournaments and matches in Japan in April 2027, bringing together teams from Japan 🇯🇵 , Germany 🇩🇪 , Mozambique 🇲🇿 , Panama 🇵🇦, Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 , and Bulgaria 🇧🇬.
The exact dates and format will be announced at a later stage, but our shared vision is already clear: to strengthen friendship, cultural exchange, and international cooperation through chess.
Our visit to Japan was also a valuable cultural experience. Today, we had the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of Shogi, Japan’s fascinating national chess variant, which reflects the country’s rich traditions, strategic thinking, and unique sporting heritage.
On a personal note, the first foreign language I ever learned was Japanese, inspired by my early years studying Karate. Returning to Japan and witnessing the strength of Japanese culture, discipline, and hospitality has therefore been particularly meaningful.
We look forward to welcoming players, federations, and friends from around the world to Japan in 2027 and to celebrating the universal language of chess together. 🌍♟️🇯🇵
