Dave Grohl wrote “Everlong” while falling in love with Louise Post of Veruca Salt, shortly after the collapse of his first marriage. The song's iconic drum track was actually recorded by Grohl himself after he re-recorded most of the album's drums, leading original drummer William Goldsmith to leave the band.

The song reached #3 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart, but its legacy transcends rock radio. It famously became TV host David Letterman's all-time favorite song, and he had the band perform it upon his return from heart surgery in 2000 and again to close his final late-night broadcast in 2015. The song's dreamlike music video, directed by Michel Gondry, won the Best Group Video award at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards.

The Brazilian version of “They Don’t Care About Us” (directed by Spike Lee in 1996) was filmed in the Santa Marta favela in Rio de Janeiro and in Pelourinho in Salvador. The Rio government tried to ban the filming, fearing it would expose poverty to the world. Residents of the favela and the local drug traffickers authorized and protected the set. Michael arrived by helicopter, interacted with the community and children and danced with the Olodum group (a large ensemble of samba-reggae percussionists).

The video became a powerful symbol of protest and, according to residents and later accounts, helped draw international attention to the favela and contributed to its visibility and subsequent improvements.

"London Calling" was released in 1979 as the title track and lead single from The Clash's third studio album, London Calling. Produced by Guy Stevens, the song fused punk rock with reggae, rockabilly, ska and other influences, showcasing the band's increasingly diverse musical style. It reached No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was also released as a single in the United States, although it failed to enter the Billboard Hot 100.

Despite its relatively modest chart performance, "London Calling" became one of The Clash's most iconic songs and has since been regarded as one of the defining recordings of the punk era.

"I Feel Love" comes from Donna Summer's 1977 album I Remember Yesterday, a concept album that moves through different musical eras, with the title track representing the past, the middle of the album reflecting the present, and "I Feel Love" representing the future. Produced and co-written by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte, the track was built around Moog synthesizers, sequenced electronic rhythms and Donna Summer's hypnotic vocals, creating a sound that was radically futuristic for its time.

The song helped change the course of electronic and dance music. According to a famous story, Brian Eno heard the track while visiting David Bowie's studio and immediately told Bowie that he had heard "the sound of the future." "I Feel Love" topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks in 1977 and reached No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, while also topping the US Dance/Disco chart. Its influence can be heard throughout later electronic, house, techno and synth-pop music.

Norman Cook's acid-jazz group, this classic was first released in '93. Major hit when reissued in '95 after being used in Levi's advertisement "Taxi". The smooth, jazzy baritone vocals of Ashley Slater complements the arrangement.

"Message in a Bottle" was written by Sting and inspired by the image of a lone castaway throwing bottles into the sea in the hope that someone would find them.

The song's distinctive guitar riff originated with Sting, but guitarist Andy Summers rearranged and transformed it into the intricate part heard on the recording. "Message in a Bottle" became The Police's first No. 1 single on the UK Singles Chart, spending three weeks at the top in 1979. It also topped the charts in Ireland and reached No. 5 in Australia and No. 2 in Canada. Surprisingly it peaked at only No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.
