The 49ers’ roster is constructed around several A-list foundational players — actually the most they’ve had under this regime.
Surrounding those pillars, the 49ers have:
🏈 3rd-youngest defense (very intentional development past 2 years)
🏈 Oldest offense (but already under a major speed renovation this offseason)
There’s clear purpose here; the defense hasn’t been top-5 since 2022 so big turnover outside the Bosa/Warner/Lenoir core was mandatory. The offense, meanwhile, has remained very effective despite its perimeter speed shortcomings.
The 49ers have striven to address those this offseason while the offensive renovation will naturally evolve the next few years as players age out.
Any appraisal ignoring these nuances is too simplistic. Most importantly, the 49ers have a premium piece at the most important position
$179 million over 4 years left for Brock Purdy in practical guarantees. That’s about $45 million per year, and the total amount is behind only Mahomes and Josh Allen.
Win-win setup hold steady for Purdy and the 49ers
Guess where Mike Evans is particularly great? Exactly where Ricky Pearsall isn't.
This projects to be a really effective WR 1-2 tandem for the 49ers, and they're now also much more threatening at WR 3-5
Outsiders always want teams to "react!" to splash moves because it either makes them feel better or draws cheap clicks. But good front offices have actual rosters to construct. That's not done well on emotion.
The 49ers are in a different part of their financial cycle than the Rams. They, too, have added A LOT in their retool over the past 16 months and are confident in their own process.
And the 49ers have every reason to feel good about their team since objective results indicate their retool is ahead of schedule. They just won 13 games despite being massively injured!
Trent Williams is in the 49ers building and looks to be an active OTA participant in the video they posted.
SF has perfect offseason attendance from all players not on the Left Squad list, including from the future Hall of Famer who'll be lined up vs Myles Garrett this season
Ricky Pearsall made a couple of big catches today including a deep ball off a double move on a perfectly placed bomb from Brock Purdy.
Earlier, Pearsall (42-inch vertical) skied to bring down a crosser over Deommodore Lenoir
Shanahan likes to give starters one series in preseason game #2 and 1-2 quarters in preseason game #3. I doubt that will change even if they're playing those two teams in the regular season. 49ers will just run entirely different plays. The playtime is mainly to knock off rust
All three of the 49ers' preseason games will be played on Thursdays. This is a first and likely a way to set the table for SF's departure to Australia about one week after the Raiders game
Aug. 13: vs. Titans
Aug. 20: at Chargers
Aug. 27: at Raiders
At 4 am this morning, as I laid in a deep slumber, I was called to action by my wife who had discovered a spider the size of a half dollar in the bathroom. Without hesitation I arose to combat the intruder. Claire handed me the slant board I’ve been using for rehab, and I immediately knew the spider had no chance. It took but 1 attempt to strike down my opponent. I received hugs and kisses for my bravery and fell back asleep with confidence. Have a day gentlemen. 🕷️
