@Pirates please pass along my regards to the GM! With that said, also tell him to boot Henry Davis to AAA. Get Triolo out of the starting line up. Trade for a serviceable bullpen arm until a bigger trade for high leverage guy becomes available. And most importantly WIN WIN WIN!
@northsiden0tch I think it’s coming. His outings the last 2-3 times have been shorter. Like simulating coming out of the bullpen. Unless this was purely planned to be shorter.
@The_EarlyShift Bullpen an option if this continues? At least we know that we would get a very solid 1-2 innings an outing from him. Though I could only imagine how much drama that would cause.
I kept this story in my pocket for a long time....
In Pittsburgh, September 15th is Roberto Clemente Day.
Every year the whole organization fans out across the city. It's like Christmas. Roberto's family is there, Vera and the boys.
My first year as manager was 2011. We celebrated. We shook hands and moved on.
We didn't win.
19 consecutive losing seasons.
2012 rolls around. Same day, same celebration. We had another losing season, our 20th consecutive.
After the ceremony, Roberto Jr. walked over.
"My mom wants to talk to you."
We went into the dugout. Me, Vera, and her three sons.
She spoke in Spanish. I played four years of winter ball so I understood enough. She wasn't angry, but she was passionate. And I kept hearing Roberto's number come up.
Roberto Jr. translated.
"My mother wants you to know that there cannot be a 21st losing season. That was Roberto's number. It would be a disgrace to his legacy."
She was staring right at me.
Before I could even think about what to say, words came out of my mouth:
"I promise you, Vera. That won't happen."
Roberto Jr. looked at me and said, "You made my mom a promise. I hope you can keep it."
I said, "I hope I can keep it too."
I didn't tell my coaches. I didn't tell the players. I told my wife. That was it.
The next year, 2013, we broke the consecutive seasons losing streak. Ended it at 20.
On Roberto Clemente Day that September, Vera came walking across that field.
And I probably got one of the most meaningful hugs I've ever received in my life.
The players did all the heavy lifting. I just got the hug.
Some promises are worth making before you know if you can keep them.
@Pirates
@GMBCSuperfan What do you think happened to the Mlod fastball velocity?? Because I’m fairly certain it was a few ticks higher when he was coming out of the pen.
8/22 🤔’s from the Burgh 🖤💛
Thank you Pittsburgh! 🏴☠️⚔️🏴☠️
I woke up this morning with a strange feeling I’d been here before. 🤔😎😂
I was cared for and challenged in my 9 years here in Pittsburgh.
It’s a city built on hard truth and trust. Pittsburgh has uncompromising standards and warmth. It’s built on challenge and care.
Hard truth needs to be shared.
Hard truth may not always be easy, pleasant or convenient. That’s what makes this city “Worth it!”
We did not get to where we wanted to go however we’re able to rebond a city with its baseball team.
It was an honor to be your Manager. Thank you to all I was able to work with in my years here.
Thank you!🙏
Love Clint
The @Pirates in 2025:
April 23: held Angels to 2 hits in Anaheim
May 31: held Padres to 2 hits in SD
July 29: held Giants to 2 hits in SF
No other MLB team in the modern era has allowed 2 or fewer hits in a game in 3 different road ballparks in the same state in the same year.
