I haven't been able to keep track of all the chaos in the streets tonight. But Bogotá is exploding in protest after cops killed an unarmed man. Many small police stations (CAIs) are on fire and lots of violence is being captured on video. At least one man has been shot reportedly
@Soulkraven Done! Saw that before Lighthouse actually. And I think I liked it even more somehow? Both are pretty close and easy 5/5 for me and top 100 all timers probably.
My only debate now is whether or not I watch original Nosferatu before going to see his version. I don't think I will.
This is an impossible question, I know, but looking for some recommendations:
What are some all-time movies that haven't won big awards and aren't from super famous directors that I need to watch?
@cmccollo WAVES. GODDAMN. Now that is a fucking movie. Thanks so much. I viscerally hated the first hour then.... it becomes one of the best movies I've ever seen. Taylor Russell is INCREDIBLE.
Nightcrawler very good also. Just saw that a few months ago. Have somehow become a big Jake fan
@meshuggadaddy Not sure if it was you inspired two years later or serendipity but I watched these BOTH within like 3 weeks. Seven Psychos is what I'd call a lesser McDonagh but I still really liked it. Moon might be my new favorite Black Mirror episode. Just really clever and Rockwell... man.
@wkatie We've discussed this and I don't even think you have this app anymore. But oh my god Don't Look Now. What a movie. Donnie boy is so goated and I now must go to Venice and get haunted. (Widows is pretty meh to me, as you also know)
@GerryLond Game Night is incredible! Thanks. Also enjoyed Place Beyond the Pines (with a bit of reservations) and way more so Nightcrawler. I never suspected I would become a huge Gyllenstan but... here we are.
@Curley_Synergy I think I had seen this already at the time but just circling back to note that GOOD GOD YES. legit contender for best action movie ever. I couldnt possibly like it more. And shod rewatch again soon!
@Soulkraven Saw Prisoners too. Twice. Definitely very high level. Kind of a ceiling on that type of movie but you're right, it's gotta be up there w/ something of a dont make em like that '90s feel. Doesn't quite get to Se7en tier but I enjoyed it. Liked Enemy even more. Amazing Gyllenwork.
@Soulkraven Lighthouse fucking rules. Holy shit. What a film. I'm in love with him.
And holy shit, maybe even more, for Incendies. Good god. So visually beautiful and emotionally devastating. Amazing.
@ensergio Saw Seven Psychopaths! Definitely solid and was the only McDonagh movie I hadnt seen. Great to round him out and see the full ride that he and Colin have gone one. It's my least favorite of their three but still much enjoyed. Also watched Moon a few weeks later. Rockwell rules.
@knickerbacker Unbelievable movie! Finally saw it last year and not only is it a top 2-3 horror film for me now (with Alien and Don't Look Now) but alongside the Lighthouse it propelled Eggers into the a rare air of directors I now simply love. So so so good.
@MrGordian I have since Seen Paris, Texas and it's now among my all time favorites. What a fucking picture. Goddamn. Amazing.
Also saw Ali Fear Eats the Soul and it was a very good watch. It's definitely unlike much else I've seen just in format and tone, not sure exactly how even.
@MillerTimePod I have since seen Game Night. Maybe three times! It's incredible. Probably my top comedy of the last ten years (of Nice Guys). I think about how something can't possibly be profitable for Frito Lay like once a week.
@MillerTimePod Attack the Block is exactly the type of under the radar classic I'm talking about. I'm actually not as high on it as it's chief fans but it is excellent and fits perfectly as a recommendation.
