#EDU6333 my takeaway from this course is to embrace the expertise of Web 2.0 futurist: mesh, v-cloud, Symantec web assistance, AI. It’s where we are going. If educational models and pedagogies adapt with these changes, our next generations can leverage tremendous opportunities.
@JcarrollC #EDU6333 Agreed, I also think student support services (higher education environments) can be more successful when they engage students using social media networks and platforms and dynamic platforms.
@Klaskarides #EDU6333 I think my greatest surprise from this course is how much I now see the immense potential in the gamification of education. In addition to all of the attributes you raise, I also think theirs a high degree of intrinsic motivation that is stoked from well designed games.
@JaysonChung1#EDU6333 As new web tools are adopted so do our conpenticies skills need updating. When engaging the larger scope and leverage of Web 2.0, we must equip students w/ the abilities to protect their privacy and to be strong consumers of valid information and legtitamite networks.
@HFralinger9 @JcarrollC In my case freedom of speech also didn’t overide the fact that what one says or publishes freely still have consequences. #EDU6333
@HFralinger9 I like the branded message of https://t.co/MRWZCyAP9L vs. https://t.co/txGJOJttKE. I told in my upbringing that it's easier to do focus on something good that remedies the issue then try to stop doing something negative related to the issue.
@Klaskarides It will be interesting to know how best to mitigate these behaviors from occurring - it's hard to prevent harmful behavior by others. I do think perhaps ReThink an application device presented on SharkTank might be a potential solution: https://t.co/GhvI2Jof2w
#EDU6333 As NPR guidelines forewarn, "social media outlets are public spaces." In my legal case & research, I'm focusing on the risk w/ content students post colliding w/ ethical shift in practice by employers and colleges to scour social media profiles when reviewing candidates.
@hingdpotter @marymargaret225#EDU6333 I did the same, and then I realized discovering the parameters and context was in part what the game was about...took me about 5-7 minutes to figure some of this out.
@HFralinger9#EDU6333 And I liked how James Gee suggested assessment is better driven from the localized learning environment vs. "from away." The assessments need to better ingrained and timed with the active learning.
@HFralinger9 I see so many parrallels with these freedoms that drive gamifi-Ed w what’s Henry Thoreau did all these things in his year in the woods near Walden Pond over 150 years ago. He created an environment where he could think with these freedoms.
@bwatwood So true. Especially for the subjects like the history. A game highlighted this week, provides a simulated world to go historical detective like work to learn about history. To thrive through the AI revolution, then we need to be educating and thinking for multiple solutions.
#EDU6333 Gamification helps us "rise to the challenge...with freedoms to experiment" - Scott O. For me, the underlying thread from playing the Lure and reading Davis and Gleason is that Gamifi-Ed promotes intrinsically-driven learning and creative freedom to problem solve.
@bwatwood @hingdpotter @madrock25 I’d suggest a freedom to exchange knowledge with other gamers might be a possibility me freedom built into gamifi-Ed platforms that are structured for group play and learning. I think self driven learning is greatly needed, but I think there’s room for more peer collaboration.
#EDU6333 James Gee makes a strong argument that assessments will be much more intertwined in the embodied self-driven learning environment rather than students meeting external assessments of borrowed curriculum benchmarks -often measured long after the new knowledge development.
#EDU6333 Are any of you getting error codes when you go to log-in to your myneu blackboard account? It was only happening on my mobile device but now it's also happening via my laptop. Just wondering if I'm the only one?
