October is upon us which means many thousands of college seniors will embark on the painstaking post-grad job search. A short note on startup recruiting, in their honor:
I firmly believe that if startup offers could match banking and consulting time horizons, we would see one of the biggest pre-professional shifts ever among non-technical college students.
Few students work for startups out of college because the recruiting process does not have the structure or predictability of other cycles. Plus, large firms can (and do) extend offers 2+ years in advance.
On the heels of an expensive education and/or pressure from parents and peers, students opt for the safe route and satiate their startup itch by telling themselves that the door will still be open in 2-3 years.
Recruiting for startups as a senior when everyone around me was doing the traditional thing was messy, scary, and even torturous at times. I wish I came across someone older than me, who might've even posted what I'm writing right now, so that I could reach out for guidance.
If that’s you today, pls DM me. Would seriously love to help

sending that ^ as a last-resort bump email is the most effective sales technique i've ever learned
it evokes an emotional response in the recipient because people are not used to seeing their name in such an exposed manner. it's almost alarming
the format also breaks their pattern recognition of what cold outreach looks like, and therefore breaks their autopilot response to said outreach
this has either revived or generated at least one deal per month for me, no exaggeration
shame on @Docusign for sending marketing emails to salespeople. any seller knows an unread message from DocuSign is only supposed to mean ONE thing
saw this 5 minutes ago and my heart is still racing
