Bernie Sanders in statement issued as Harris is about to give her concession speech:
"It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them."
equal pay, reforms to protect players from predatory coaches, elevation of LGBTQ players all while winning two world cups and two olympic medals is GOAT shit. rapinoe (deservedly) gets her flowers but that whole generation made sports and the world a better place.
pros in women's sports have no choice but to be both athletes and activists. one of the great joys of watching the uswnt/nwsl in the morgan era was how great this generation was at both. worth watching the video in full. 🫡 a legend.
J.K. Rowling and Elon Musk have both been named in a criminal complaint filed to French authorities over alleged “acts of aggravated cyber harassment” against Algerian boxer and newly crowned Olympic champion Imane Khelif.

Emma Hayes comes into press conference: 'It's like someone let a f*****g balloon down in here.' Adds: 'I had a f*****g blast this past month. At times I felt I was at university. America means more to me than most people realise. I was a 20-year-old that came from a stuffy society that didn’t embrace the women’s game. I went to the US and they gave me opportunities that England never gave me and I am so happy to repay that faith.'
for those unaware, this is what we in the biz call an expert pivot: instead of answering the question that was asked (about jan 6, bad issue for him) he artfully shifts to talking about a better issue for him (how he got a bigger crowd than mlk and the march on washington)
one of the most important practices in politics is taking and celebrating Ws
no W is ever the end or ever unalloyed but you gotta take em
this is one and it feels great
thinking about all my friends working their asses off on campaigns and committees to prevent a MAGA takeover of the federal government seeing the DNC chair say “lol yeah right people won’t vote for trump.” this is such a shocking and clarifying thing to say and he should resign.
“According to information from Michele Giannone, the French world champion and former Arsenal player, Patrick Vieira ended his relationship as a Strasbourg manager and is in negotiations with US Soccer to be the new coach of the United States national team.”
every single action by the biden campaign and DNC is a clear signal that they don't have any ideas for and don't care to address the very real and very valid concerns about biden's fitness and ability to win. this only serves to turn voters off and does nothing to win them back.
Scoop w/ @HansNichols
The DNC is quietly steaming ahead with plans to technically nominate Biden weeks before the party's convention
Current plan: train state party chairs next week on electronic voting
voting likely to open on Jul 29 and end by Aug. 5

and there's something particularly galling about the fact that not only are dem/anti-trump voters being forced to accept no alternative, but the campaign is in free fall and refuse to acknowledge it and haven't demonstrated any plan for pulling out of it. https://t.co/qrNWZ79Axh
i can’t predict the future and don’t pretend to be smarter than anyone else, so i’ll just say it *feels* to me like a moral and tactical failure to run a clearly declining, deeply unpopular, genocide-abetting candidate against someone who wants to end representative democracy.
if biden is the nominee of course i will show up and vote for him, because i think representative democracy is important and i can’t see how any issue i care about does anything but get worse, likely way worse. but this is truly grim shit.
