@jjohns1221 @cb_johns I’m following. You and @cb_johns give me hope to retain my Pentecostalism amidst all of the nonsense I have had to work/pastor through.
So true. I have been thinking that as we move into the post covid future it will be Sacramental and Pentecostal churches that do well. If you are going to watch online it’s probably not going to be the local church down the street when you could watch a mega church production.
It’s interesting hearing how much faith boomers have in online church’s ability to attract young people when I haven’t heard that at all from said young people
...the blessed accept their acceptance and the cursed reject it; but the acceptance is already in place for both groups before either does anything about it. - Robert Capon
Judgment, as it is portrayed in the parables of Jesus (not to mention the rest of the New Testament) never comes until after acceptance: grace remains forever the sovereign consideration. The difference between the blessed and the cursed is one thing and one thing only...
But the longer I follow Jesus the more comfortable I am with how needy I am. How much I need grace. The person that taught me this was an Episcopal priest. I only met him through his books but my life is changed because of his writings. Here are some of his quotes...
I used to think that being a Christian meant bothering God less in prayer as I matured. Sort of like a child who becomes independent from their parents as they grow older.
My 4yr old son and I were watching planet earth, and he sees a lion chasing something and says, “dad, the creditors are chasing them.” Something about that just sounds too real 🤣
I didn't grow up celebrating Advent, but I am finding so much joy in this season.
The fact that Advent is the start of the Christian calendar rather than New Year is an incredible reminder that our life starts with God coming to us, not a resolution to make ourselves better.
A preaching of the gospel that calls men and women to accept Jesus as Savior but does not make it clear that discipleship means commitment to a vision of society radically different from that which controls our public life today must be condemned as false.
You can experience #pentecost (Acts 2) and still have an incomplete understanding of what Pentescost is all about (Acts 10-11) Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit.
