Whatever happened between script and VFX department for this movie aside, the spirit of the thing remains sound. And yeah, to the untrained eye, a lot of leaves look the same, so the training is crucial.

In the Games, most of your time isn’t even spent fighting. You gotta keep your calories and your wits up. Didn’t work out for this character, but can’t fault the effort.

You can then pick the right berries, make the right teas, or make poisons using this knowledge. The scene was probably just trying to show how quick her skill was at this task.
