Amnat Charoen senators threaten to sue Yingcheep over qualification claims
Two senators from Amnat Charoen said they will file a defamation complaint against iLaw manager Yingcheep Atchanont after he alleged they lacked the qualifications to contest the 2024 Senate election under Group 10.
Yingcheep said senators Daeng Kongma and Somphan Phalasak, who listed their occupations as a pork vendor and a bitter melon chicken noodle vendor, had likely registered under the wrong category. He argued Group 10 was reserved for owners of large businesses with more than 300 employees.
Somphan rejected the claim, citing EC ruling No. 249/2024, which dismissed a complaint against Daeng, and EC ruling No. 17/2025, which cleared him, finding both met the required qualifications and had more than 10 years of relevant experience in the occupational group under which they applied. He said he and Daeng would take legal action, accusing Yingcheep of ignoring the EC's rulings and damaging their reputations.
Yingcheep responded by challenging the senators to publish the full EC rulings, saying they were not publicly available despite his previous request for the Election Commission to disclose complaint records and decisions. He said releasing the complaints, evidence and rulings in full would allow the public to independently verify the facts.
