@Bullyghostt@Heminator The whole film is about a college boy out of the army - as straight a straight young man as possible - becoming a merciless gangster. Having Michael be more like his father makes for more consistent characterisation, but a much less interesting story.
@Steve_Sailer@Aatif_Rashid Many Filipinos look Latin American, so their visual image of Rico wouldn’t be disrupted by that reveal. And ofc, you need to know what Tagalog is
@Steve_Sailer@Aatif_Rashid Rod’s race in Tunnel in the Sky is never mentioned. It’s confirmed by Heinlein elsewhere and his love interest in the novel is black, leading readers of the time to assume he is too. The Starship Troopers one isn’t a physical description; it’s a cultural reveal referencingTagalog
A “horror” wedding video from 1995 has gone viral in Russia after a filmmaker discovered the old VHS tape and digitised it.
The footage shows a modest wedding celebration held in the common room of a vocational school in the Moscow region, complete with Soviet-era posters, cheap decorations and the unmistakable atmosphere of the Yeltsin-era.
The tape has been labelled “Horror Film: Wedding in Uvarka,” a joke that feels oddly appropriate given the grainy VHS quality and surreal surroundings.
Chris Nolan’s next film is a biopic of the man who invented sliced bread: he ended his days running one of those artisan hipster bakeries and cursing his earlier work.
@CentipedeMouse Andy Weir (The Martian, Project Hail Mary) fits the Crichton mould, but his writing style is very juvenile with lots of MCU-style wisecracking, not for everyone. Mick Herron (Slow Horses). Lauren Beukes (The Shining Girls).
It’s a sea shanty plopped in the middle of an LP all about growing up goes from youthful naivety (Wouldn’t It Be Nice) through teen alienation (Wasn’t Made For These Times) and closes on wistful disillusionment (Caroline No). It’s only on there because the label wanted a single.
@Buddhacris@JaredPlaudis@kit_sionn_witch It’s selling an AI product tuned to a specific task, switching between cheaper & more expensive models. That’s the added value. This is typical of IT: Dropbox was built on AWS storage, and the same functionality could have been scripted with FTP & rsync. People paid for Dropbox.
@stalecooper They only have one great album: but what an album. Apart from Sloop John B I wouldn’t change anything. The Beatles’ albums never fully cohere for me—too many cooks. But the truncated US release of RS turns it into pure folk rock, and it was that version that inspired BW for PS.
@RingoStarr39@NARCFILM@hiattb By my count, there are 10 tracks on TWA where all 4 played together live in studio, with caveats: songs where one Beatle’s contribution is shaking a tambourine etc. The OP’s framing is off though. Half TWA is not all 4, then there’s She’s Leaving Home, George’s sitar warblings,
@IonaItalia Fuck that, it can provide a list of the changes it proposes and I will approve or reject them, then it can go do them on the document itself. There is no copy-pasting involved anywhere. I’m not manually doing something so tedious and so easily automated
@inceptstellar@AimeLN3 Bu it would cost you nothing to stop. Hoult might not be short on money, but he would foregoing career capital at his peak, and would earn a reputation as someone who turns stuff down for political reasons. Meanwhile the role is recast and JKR loses zero.
@rocco_botte Obi Wan’s hermit years was always a bad idea. He lives in a cave in the desert like he’s St Anthony or something. A Star Wars set in the galaxy’s underbelly of bounty hunters and smugglers was a no-brainer and we got it in the form of a spy thriller: Andor.
