@abarrallen It wouldn't be a problem If CON laws didn't exist - consolidation to make a more efficient market, and cheaper product, is commonplace outside of the hospital industry. One of the only places where consolidation drives costs UP.
@DerrickEvans4WV Get the government out of it and you'll see prices plummet.
Also, encourage your kids to think really hard about the usefulness of a degree at all.
There's plenty of excellent plans put forward by health entrepreneurs and those who actually know how it operates. There's too much political power against fixing it because problems pay the politicians.
So you know, if he's allowed to opt out of the health plan at work there's good alternatives. For my family of 7 our total health spending for the year averages about 10K.
They have no concept of things changing, or thinking outside the box.
Private companies build the most incredibly complex machines and enormous service business caring for millions of customers a day. But, somehow, without a government fire department nobody could figure out how to put water on a burning building? Ludicrous.
@elonmusk
When you feel like your contributions to the advancement of space flight are complete, perhaps you could check into regular flight? There's no reason that a standard seven-seat airplane should cost x30 more than a similar capacity SUV.

You have a lot of other factors to add to the equation so your apples to oranges -
Size of home.
Features per home.
Bathroom count.
Appliance count.
etc
Institutional investors are a tiny fraction of the market, and they are the part of the reason renting is cheaper than owning right now.
Also, obviously making building practically impossible is not helping. Thank A lot of different things for that - climate freaks, Government intervention, local jurisdictions wanting their payoff, extra requirements (Solar, pressure systems, backflow etc). In my area of California it adds over 200k to the price of building a basic home.
You mean those private businesses that do incredibly complicated, incredibly expensive things? Private companies can drill 15,000 ft under the ocean, in the stormiest places in the world, but they can't put water onto the house down the street? Only The government is that incompetent (thanks LA).
@lfgtr65@DividendBreeder A large portion of them already work for free, i.e. volunteers.
Imagine any other complicated service business, or something as far flung and wild as oil or electronics market. People know how to run businesses, you don't, dolt.
@arindube PSA to fools who speak of things of which they know not- most hospitals are 70+ percent funded by the government. Please explain another market, that you would call a free market, that is 70% funded by the government?
