As of 8 pm Bangladesh time (3pm UK time), the following news from journalists in Bangladesh about the student protests:
- According to a list at the emergency wards of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (seen by journalists) at least 19 people were killed today, bringing the total confirmed death toll of student protestors/bystanders since Monday at the hands of law enforcement authorities (according to reporters) to 64;
- significant escalation of violence following Friday prayers, including protestors attacking police officers, and in the district town of Narsingdi, protestors stormed the jail resulting in the freeing of hundreds of prisoners ;
- Obaidul Quader, a minister and senior governing Awami League leader has been quoted as saying that the security forces must be tough against the protestors.
