@AnchitGupta9 Group Captain J S Ram Singh was a highly distinguished officer whose career bridged the era between the British Royal Air Force (RAF) and the nascent Indian Air Force (IAF). Part of select generation of Indian airmen who saw the transition from a colonial force to a sovereign one
A rainy, cold morning in Delhi. One of those days when it feels easier to stay hidden. But today deserves to be remembered.
Group Captain Jugger Singh Ram Singh was as distinctive in name as he was in service. He belonged to the very first generation of Hawai Sepoys of the IAF, when the service itself had just come into being on 1 April 1933.
Only days later, on 5 April 1933, Flying Officer HP Broad took off in Wapiti on a familiarisation flight, giving Ram Singh an air experience sortie. It was a small moment in aviation terms, but one that placed Ram Singh at the absolute beginnings of Indian military aviation.
He was eventually commissioned as an engineering officer in 1943 and would go on to serve for over two decades, retiring in January 1966 as a Group Captain. Born on 23 January 1911, he served throughout the formative years of the Indian Air Force, from its infancy to its emergence as a mature service.
His contributions did not go unrecognised. He was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1945 and later awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 1967 for his distinguished service, particularly during his tenure as Commanding Officer of a Base Repair Depot. When he took command of a Base Repair Depot in August 1963, Ram Singh immediately set about reorganising it to improve output and efficiency. During the hostilities with Pakistan, the depot under his leadership met urgent operational demands within remarkably short timelines.
Quiet, foundational, and indispensable.

Chandigarh’s iconic Rock Garden is being torn apart. Its outer wall is destroyed along with hundreds of trees– all for a road widening project and a parking lot. Stop this destruction today. Take action https://t.co/cv83BJZ9wn

Monkeys are significant in many Southeast Asian cultures, often linked to Hanuman from Hindu mythology, a symbol of strength, devotion, and humility. The serene backdrop, during sunset, aligns with the resort’s theme of tranquility and connection to nature.
The statue in the photo is of a monkey in a praying posture, which represents reverence and spirituality. At Four Seasons Koh Samui, such imagery symbolizes respect for Thai culture and traditions. #fskohsamui
