@theblockspot Urban was saying on a podcast the other day some stat about how college kids because of this system are now graduating at a higher rate of college
@RealSkipBayless Skip.. Indiana was the corporate sponsor of the Cignetti football club. When you start viewing it like that, it makes sense for modern college football.
@SportsCenter Indiana isn’t the program anymore
They’re the sponsor
It’s the Curt Cignetti football club
If he leaves, the sponsor changes
The club doesn’t
Everyone keeps saying college football is “broken.”
Transfer portal. NIL. Chaos.
Meanwhile the product is absolutely cooking.
Ratings are up. Games are wild. Storylines every week. Parity finally exists.
They want Saban as commissioner to “fix” it.
Fix what?
This is the most fun college football has been in decades.
People are misunderstanding the whole situation with Cig. Everyone keeps saying he’s only in year two at Indiana, but if you actually listen to him, he’s been coaching this same team since 2019. He doesn’t see it as joining a new program. To him, Indiana is just a new sponsor and a new name on the jersey. The team itself is the same core group he has been building for years. Once you understand that, everything he says makes perfect sense.
This is the cleanest playoff model college football has ever had. It is based on results. It is based on rankings. And it resets every season. You earn your place. You earn your conference spots. Nothing guaranteed.
Here are the 12 teams that should make the playoff this year using a Champions League style system. Conference bids are earned. Selection comes from performance and the AP Top 25.
Big Ten: Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, USC
SEC: Georgia, Ole Miss, Texas A and M, Oklahoma
Big 12: Texas Tech, BYU
ACC: Miami
G5: Tulane
This creates a playoff that rewards performance today but also keeps every conference accountable for what happened last year. If a league wants more spots, it has to earn them. If a league underperforms, it loses them. Simple. Fair. Transparent.
