🚨 NEW: Reform UK’s Makerfield by-election candidate Robert Kenyon previously claimed women “can’t drive” and get abortions for “vanity purposes” to “shag anyone they want”
He admitted: “I’m sexist, sorry but I am”
@Dr_Bekka_UK Social security spending overall is not increasing in any significant way. In 2023/4 the UK spent 4.88% of GDP on non-pensioner social security payments, which is lower than it was in 2009 (5.75%), the comparison year the OBR used in its 2024 report on incapacity benefits.
@GMB@susannareid100 You can score 25 points (21 + 4) and not qualify for PIP under the proposed reforms. It then gets much worse, you lose the LCWRA, get hit by the benefits cap, and are forced into the Jobcentre on a regular basis, and are presumably subject to sanctions. Look at that on its merits
DWP is using a sleight of hand in its disability benefit cuts impact assessment: Actual increase in poverty is closer to 400,000, not the 250,000 in the impact assessment.
Quick thread explaining why. 🧵1/7
@ssico1@DrFrancesRyan I think you should get your facts right. I never assumed anything, unlike your assumption in regards to people abusing the system.
@DrFrancesRyan This applies to people that do not 'score' 4 on any PIP daily living descriptor, but potentially have an overall score of 11 (or even higher). It is reasonable for the government to know that such people are going to become destitute whilst being profoundly unwell/disabled.
@DrFrancesRyan I think you missed the fact that the benefit cap applies when you lose PIP, and by association, the LCWRA (and possibly any SDP). If the Claimant is single, lives outside of London, they can only get £283.71pw in total (including any housing benefit). Mind-blowingly cruel.
@artlover98 @DrFrancesRyan It's barbaric. That also applies if someone gets 11 points (or possibly even more) in terms of PIP too, but does not score 4 points on any particular descriptor. It's just plain wrong.
@DagmarRichards5@johnmcdonnellMP Yes, whilst rents are increasing at unprecedented rates due to inflation etc. If there was ever a time to unfreeze LHA rates, this would be it.
