@jamesburrell2@pkedrosky Method will be dependent on exercise (running, cycling etc.). As will the VO2max you get - in general, activities that use more muscles (e.g. XC skiing) will give you a higher max than those that don’t (e.g. cycling).
@jamesburrell2@pkedrosky There’s only one way to get it accurately measured - using equipment which measures gaseous exchange. There are plenty of ways of estimating it that are good enough if you’re interested in longevity.
@altini_marco Will have a read of that - thanks for linking. Is the large N still enough, though if participants aren’t able to complete the 30 mins after training due to life? Asking for my interest, rather than a critique.
@will_mccloy Will, I just finished this book. It’s brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I see it’s listed as YA, well I’m nearly 40 and I loved it. Congratulations.
@__runningmumma @UKRunChat It’s possible to hold a very good average pace whilst using a walk/run strategy, especially during an ultra. Maybe see the walk periods as a chance to refuel, reset form and make any adjustments to clothing etc., rather than just…
@__runningmumma @UKRunChat If training for an ultra, it’s probably better to run too easy on easy runs, than even a little bit too hard. Hope it goes well for you.
@__runningmumma @UKRunChat Another vote for the previous advice of being able to hold a conversation being a good marker of “easy”. If you’re using zones pre-set by Garmin and the heart rate is coming from wrist-based sensor, there’s a good chance it’s inaccurate. That being said…
@jeannedekerle Hope you have a restful and enjoyable break Jeanne. As someone who has been a benefactor of your kindness and consideration, I can reassure you that it doesn’t go unnoticed where it matters 🙂
@a_whitehead1 @jennycoady10 Started here. Saw a lot of this as a PE teacher (particularly with independent schools hiring ex-pro players as Director of Sport or similar). Also largely evident in triathlon coaching (a lot of current pros coaching as an extra income). 1/2
@nedboulting That’s where they filmed the England landing scene for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, I believe. Either that, or I’ve been lying to people who visit the area for years.
