I don’t think Americans understand what it means to Taiwanese. Taiwan is the only country which can’t be accepted as a member at the UN because of China. They are not allowed to use their national flag in international events, their diplomatic relationship with all the countries were arbitrarily terminated at the request of China. It is a small country with 25million people. But they have their name Taiwan across their chest, they are more emotional than other national athletes .

Czech President @prezidentpavel welcomes former Taiwanese President @iingwen in Prague at Forum2000 conference.

How has this happened? Here is how the Czech President openly engages Taiwan:

2023: Czech President Pavel was the first European head of state (as president-elect then) to have direct phone call with then sitting Taiwanese president. Pavel told Tsai he wants to meet her in Prague.

2023: Czech President Pavel was the first European head of state to appear publicly alongside sitting Taiwanese Foreign Minister at @_EuropeanValues Summit.

2024: Czech President Pavel was the only European head of state to congratulate President @ChingteLai for his election.

And now, October 2024, former Taiwanese President @iingwen is welcomed by President @prezidentpavel in Prague:
