In the next 7 years:
LAL has no 2nd rd picks
DEN has 1 2nd
BOS has 3 2nds
MIN has 3 2nds
CLE has no 2nds
DAL has 5 2nds
I’d like to see DET bundle 3-4 of their many future 2nd rd picks and grabbing one more late 1st this year. The teams with the last 6 picks def can use them.
@ZachEri61454045@pistons_jack@Charlottean28 I mean, if I’m the one making the offer, I’d start with your suggestion.
I am not for giving up a first for an expiring deal (Herro).
@Charlottean28@pistons_jack Right, but the Herro deal would hard cap them at the first apron ($209m).
And yeah, we’re good, we shouldn’t pull a Josh Kroenke/Gail Benson
@pistons_jack@Charlottean28 If they wanted to include Duncan instead of a Huerter S&T, they’d have $37.5m under the apron, but 6 open roster spots.
@pistons_jack@Charlottean28 If they wanted to make it work, but wanted to keep Duncan:
Stew, Ron, Sass & 2 future 1sts for Murphy
Caris, #21, and a S&T’ed Huerter for Herro. Huerter’s deal would need a year 1 salary of >$6m.
Leaves $21.5m below the apron, & 5 open roster spots.
@KuKhahil The deal I’ve pondered, if they can close the Murphy trade, is could they pry Aldama from Memphis for Caris and a couple 2nds, to platoon with a re-signed Toby? Then maybe they could use a portion of the MLE to sign Brucy B to round out their 10 man rotation.
@KuKhahil Right, I wonder how careful they’d be in taking back longer term money in trades like that though. Maybe Gores is saying to spare no expense.
They’re going to be expensive for a while, so discernment this summer is critical
@KuKhahil For sure. It’s way more team friendly. I just want to pump the brakes if anyone thinks this trade would mean we could get another all star. That would get prohibitively expensive.
If they trade for Trey, then he, Cade, Ausar, & Duren are our core the rest of the decade.
If the rumored deal of Murphy-to-DET happens, it’s crazy to think it wouldn’t improve a 60 win team. Fans begged for Trajan to get a 2nd scorer & spacing. TM3 gives that to them, cost controlled for 3 yrs, & doesn’t nearly empty the war chest, or take away a playoff rotation guy.
A Duncan Robinson explainer:
Say DET does Duncan & Caris to POR for Jrue
Jrue is $34.8m to DET, so DET needs to send >$25.8m in $. Caris is $14.8m, so Detroit has to gte $11m of Duncan's deal. If POR waives Duncan, he'll be $11m in dead $ on their cap. If not, all $16m is gtd.
