he was never nonchalant or 'cool', he's always felt intensely, it's obvious that he has never been emotionless. empty, maybe. seeking that last line of self worth in killing itachi, perhaps. but never without visceral anger keeping him going.
nothing else mattered. his entire existence was narrowed down to the concept of power, of achievement through any means. he actively harmed himself to seek revenge. ultimately, he had decided his life wasn't worth the entirety of which he had lost.
