Belfast, the league table nobody’s torching a bus over:
🔥 West Belfast 1 in 3 children growing up in poverty. Not after one knife attack. Every day, for years.
🔥 NHS waiting lists the worst in the entire UK. Half a million people in the queue. A man waited six years for a new knee.
🔥 45,000 kids’ families docked by the two-child cap while the politicians look the other way.
Now what does Nigel Farage talk about? Not that. Never that.
He talks about the bus stop, the small boat, the bloke who doesn’t look like you. Because while a third of west Belfast’s children go without, Farage has trousered over a million quid in “second jobs” since the last election nearly £1.2m a year from GB News alone, £189k to flog gold bars, fifty grand recording birthday videos on his phone. Highest-earning MP in the Commons. Then he routes it through his own company so he pays corporation tax instead of the income tax the rest of us cough up and still managed to file £380k of it late, 17 times over.
That’s the trick, isn’t it. Point at the poorest man on the street so nobody looks at the richest man on the telly. A hungry child in Ardoyne doesn’t pay his GB News salary. Outrage does.
Real patriots feed the kids in their own constituency. Grifters just sell them someone to blame at two grand an hour.
Met Police chief Sir Mark Rowley very strong on scenes in Belfast:
"I was watching a bit of the news last night, and I can't remember what channel it was, but a journalist was talking about 'these protesters.'
"I thought, that isn't a protest. People are setting fire to cars. That's not a protest. That's violent disorder, that's criminality. I really feel for Northern Ireland colleagues who are wrestling with that. It's really, really difficult.
"We live in these volatile times and, some of what goes on online whips up, sentiment on the street.
"We know that Russian state actors, Iranian state actors, they want to sow discord on the streets of the UK. So this is a really complex issue we're wrestling with. So you've got very polarised debates in the UK, and you've got other people overseas who want to drive wedge issues to create disorder, and you've got the great men and women of Police Service Northern Ireland on the streets in the middle of that, trying to sort of protect people and stop people burning down houses and things. It's awful."
I have never in my life seen such a litany of racist garbage on my timeline in my life - much of it coming from other countries, and much of it from accounts that are newly opened.
This is how Belfast looks on my femicide map.
Each of the ~1,000 pins is for a woman or girl murdered in Belfast between 1900 - 2025.
Almost all of them murdered by men and mostly by the type of men who were strolling around Belfast tonight wrecking their own city. /1
I fear all the problems we have been talking about for so long have just got an awful lot worse with destruction.
Roads, infrastructure, public transport, budget and economy all in trouble.
Worst for me is our brilliant health service staff who we simply can’t do without
A child being rushed from a burning building by a riot police officer into a police landrover as everything goes up in flames.
I hope those who fanned the flames are content with themselves. Because they knew this violence was coming. You can't light the touch paper and expect us to believe you when you walk away and say "how awful".
How some politicians in Northern Ireland have conducted themselves in the last days, months and years has in huge part contributed to this. Absolutely disgusting.
President Macron is absolutely right to call for regulation of social algorithms
Freedom of speech is not the freedom to these algorithms which at best are “trade secrets”
We regulate gambling companies using trade secrets to make us addicted - both use the same methods
The business case for reopening the Knockmore Line is now in development.
This line would reconnect communities, link Belfast International Airport by rail and support real sustainable growth.
I’ll keep pushing to see it delivered. @CircleLineBT#CircleLine#LaganValley #KnockmoreLine
@carlalockhart My eyes aren't painted on, Carla...
Neither is anyone else's.
Where is your condemnation of the masked men? You're clearly free to attack Alliance, but still nothing on that?
Says it all.
Carla, there is video evidence of individuals you were standing alongside shouting “slut”, “pedo”, “dirty rats” and “scum” at people taking part in a peaceful procession.
Will you condemn that vile abuse?
@MartinG1492@PaulKel79494744@BMacMathghamha You’d think from twitter and from some of our political media that sectarianism & structural division just disappeared. That we should just tolerate it as part of healthy debate when we all know the truth, it’s holding us back from our potential as a European society
@PaulKel79494744@MartinG1492@BMacMathghamha It’s straight forward really. The constitution is locked until border poll passes (GFA). Therefore parties can’t shift the needle, only the people can. Our party chooses to use political capital on everything else that we believe matters to NI people. It’s really that simple
I’ve all but given up on Twitter/X the same people every day posting the same circular shite to an ever dwindling audience, and then @HunterBiden comes along
@TUVonline The BBC is constantly and cynically being used by the TUV as a platform for planned social media clips.
It is a particularly prevalent issue with this party and the BBC can either continue to let itself be exploited or it can act to preserve its credibility.
