@Aidan_Regan Surely the elephant is the ~3/4 of all homes that were privately built? 2005 had 75k private builds and now it’s 27k. It’s not possible to explain that gap with public sector spending priorities
@damiendamien@gaitanalyst It’s about the profile of those who move. For the average Irish worker h1b is a very restrictive visa compared to going Aus/NZ/UK/EU, for the top tier O1 is much more flexible for the worker. For the average Indian h1b is better then any other hope they have at home or abroad.
@Kilted_Sailor@Lucius_Winslow Yeah happens loads. Head of central bank, head of police, head of fiscal advisory council, head of metro construction(NZ) etc.
@marwood_lennox More immediately, those rural areas are heavily dependent on welfare transfers from progressively taxed urban workers. Even a modest reduction top end salaries will blow the state budget out, like the huge deficits in 2009-12
@fitzr1122 @BarryPCotter Yeah Reta / orforglipron (pill) are straight up better than Semaglutide (Novo’s drug) so the only way to compete is to undercut Lilly’s price with insurance companies or public health schemes etc. They do make other things but nothing has the same market size as weight loss
@fitzr1122 This is really obvious in Ukraine where the USA stopped new aid in January and yet still expects to be invited to every negotiating table of a war that they no longer participate in.
@dc_lawrence Ireland did this. The price in supermarkets were set at a high minimum rate. Pubs are getting a vat cut. Pub prices continue to increase above baseline inflation levels.
@fitzr1122 Leaseholds with spiraling service charges. People were paying 90% of freehold cost for the right to pay tens of thousands of repair/cladding/embezzlement bills with absolutely no ownership rights.
