Today I held a mother in my arms so she could cry her tears of frustration. She stays up all night to care for her crying kid who scratches herself until she bleeds everyday. She’s only 2 years old yet she’s spent most of her life putting creams after creams on her little body.

The kid needs Dupixent (injection). But her insurance wouldn’t cover Dupixent until she fails crisaborole. It won’t cover crisaborole until she fails tacrolimus. It won’t cover tacrolimus until she fails 2 moderate to high potency steroids.

We have to go down the “list” of creams and fail each one of them against my clinical judgement because insurance dictates what I do. It will take us months.

My patient will spend these months not sleeping. And her mother will spent these months blaming herself and worrying if she’s done anything wrong.

So today, when I prescribed more creams, the mother cried. And I know why she did. But I couldn’t speed it up more than what insurance “allows” me to.

My spoken words: “I’m so sorry. We will get her better. I promise.”

My unspoken words: I wish instead of playing the stupid, unethical, unlawful, inhumane game with the insurance companies, we could just help a child, instead.

What will forever astound me about MAGA, is just how many of them will vote against their own self-interests to support him.

He is a rapist who said he would date his own daughter, called women dogs & bragged about sexual assault, and he has said that he wants a federal ban on abortion.
Women will vote for him anyway.

He dodged the draft, attacked a POW, called fallen war heroes suckers & losers, disparaged scores of Generals, tried to gut the VA and will decimate it if given the chance.
Veterans & members of the military will vote for him anyway.

He wants to destroy public education, cut food stamps, Medicaid, housing assistance, and other welfare programs that millions of Americans rely on.
The poor will vote for him anyway.

He doesn’t care about any of them. He doesn’t want to help any of them. He would willingly hurt all of them. And has.
But they don’t care.
Because he hates who they hate.

And sadly, that’s all they think they need.
