There was a day, around the time I was writing my final exams as an undergraduate, I went to withdraw some money to eat . Somehow, I ended up taking all the cash I had from the bank. It wasn't much anyway and POS we're not popular then. I had another exam early the next day and
When it comes to treating burns, whether they're minor or severe, providing immediate and correct first aid is crucial for minimizing damage and pain.
Here's a comprehensive first aid guide that can be applied across various types of burns be it thermal (from heat), chemical, electrical, or radiation burns.
1. STOP THE BURN
- Remove the source of the burn: For example, extinguish flames, turn off the electricity, or flush chemicals away.
- Ensure safety: Make sure the area is safe before attempting to assist others. Avoid further exposure to the cause of the burn.
2. COOL THE BURN
- For minor burns (first and second-degree burns):
Immediately cool the burn by running it under cool (not cold) water for 10 to 20 minutes. This helps reduce the temperature and prevent further damage to the skin.
- Avoid ice: Do not use ice, as it can cause additional damage to the tissue.
- For chemical burns: Rinse the affected area with large amounts of cool water for at least 20 minutes to remove any lingering chemicals.
- Electrical burns: Avoid water, and make sure the source of electricity is turned off before providing care.
3. REMOVE TIGHT ITEMS
- If possible, gently remove any tight clothing, jewelry, or accessories around the burn, as the area may swell. Do not attempt to remove clothing that is stuck to the burn.
4. COVER THE BURN
- Use a sterile, non-stick bandage, gauze, or a clean cloth to cover the burn loosely.
- Avoid applying creams, ointments, or butter immediately, as they may trap heat. Moisturizing lotion or aloe vera can be applied after initial first aid for minor burns.
5. RELIEVE THE PAIN
- Over-the-counter pain relievers, like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen, can help reduce pain and inflammation.
6. MONITOR FOR SHOCK
- Signs of shock include pale skin, fainting, shallow breathing, and confusion. Keep the patient calm, elevate their legs (if there’s no leg injury), and cover them with a blanket to keep them warm.
- Seek immediate medical help if the person appears to be going into shock.
7. SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION
- Third-degree burns or worse (charred, white, or numb skin) and electrical burns should be treated as emergencies. Call for help and get the person to the nearest hospital.
- Chemical burns: For chemical burns, also call emergency services, especially if the chemical has affected the eyes, mouth, or a large portion of the body.
- Inhalation burns: If the person has burned their airways (from smoke, steam, or chemicals), they may have trouble breathing—this is a medical emergency.
8. DO NOT BURST BLISTERS
- If blisters form, avoid popping them. They are a natural protective layer that helps prevent infection. Keep them covered with a clean dressing.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Electrical Burns: Always seek medical help, even if the burn looks minor, as there could be hidden internal damage.
- Sunburns or Radiation Burns: Apply cool compresses and moisturizers, and hydrate well. For severe cases, consult a doctor.
Burns can be life-altering injuries, but with quick, appropriate action, many can heal well without lasting damage. Prevention is key, but in the event of an accident, being prepared with first-aid knowledge can make all the difference.

I’ve declined virtually all requests for interviews on the Nigerian economy from Nigerian media over the past several months. Why? There is no point in a dialogue of the deaf. I’ve already spoken a lot about how to fix Nigeria’s economy. Anyone interested can find what I’ve said.

On Monday the 15th of August 2016, while working in my office in Abuja, I heard a voice clearly say 'Ask Faith Izang out'. Mind you at this time I had resolved to leave relationships & touch God. Immediately the thought came in, I rebuked it strongly, why? Because..1/11
