I have been privileged to work across over 20 countries including the United States and UK as a Gen Z. In many rooms I have been in, I was the youngest person.
So I can tell you, the greatest skill you need in your corner is not your certificate, but the ability to work across cultures and systems.
The fact that the 76-year old CEO in my workplace 3 streets away from the White House asked me to call him by his first name Damon doesn’t mean I should come back to Nigeria and call Dr. Oby Ezekwesili by her first name.
It’s lack of social intelligence. When you are in Rome, you behave like a Roman. Adapt quickly or be left behind.
You see, this is my issue with some of these Naija fashion brands. A lot of these guys reach out to me saying they’d love to make something for me, but their pricing ends up discouraging me from supporting them. Maybe I’m not rich enough to be in their target market, and that’s fine but I think the bigger issue in the so-called Naija luxury space is the attempt to skip the hard process it takes to truly belong there.
You can’t price like the top 0.1% of global luxury while bypassing the years of craftsmanship, brand building, attention to detail, and cultural weight that justify it. Those are the things that come to mind when I’m forking out £1,500 at Harrods for a Louboutin or Ferragamo.
Luxury is earned over time through consistency, obsessive quality, and a story people genuinely want to buy into not this sleazy attempt to signal exclusivity.
Anyways, I wish this guy all the best.
@Sai_Ishaya_ While this is absolutely true… completely ignoring him out of the foundation that he built is bad in my opinion. This is the CTO we are talking about, someone who helped in building and owning the system that is accelerating their growth even for the next decade!!
@ekeminidotcom I’m actually curious. This happens every time I credit my chipper cash wallet. Even when I don’t have a decline fee, my deposits never come in complete
