The affective remembering and frisson I get from the two shots of the car rushing forward, and the honk of the car as it pulls in front of them while Oingo Boingo churns along in the bg… that’s death, that’s what I felt when I first watched it in hs.

This has always been a problem for high-concept cinema that's become the accepted saturation cinema more and more, but you know what movie does not do this? THE MUMMY.
