Yesterday I hung out with a guy I once sold my club to, and he came with a friend who drives an Audi. I don’t even know where they crossed paths with some teacher, but as we were having one for the road, that friend started flexing. He went on about how you can’t compare a teacher; even one with a First Class honours degree; to someone driving a five-million-shilling Audi, when the teacher is struggling to even afford a motorbike.

That really pissed me off. I was so upset I even skipped the mbuzi we’d been invited to by my pal.

Why do people make everything about money? If you’re hanging out with an accomplished teacher and you’re an engineer, why turn everything into a comparison about wealth and status? Does a teacher need a five-million-shilling car to be considered your equal? You can have all the money in the world and still fail to educate your own child properly, fail to take care of yourself, and fail to understand life. That whole exchange hit me deeply.

This coming year, I have to win big, teachers deserve respect!
