I concur! 👍👍 But the whole point of them doing this is to create pressure for artists to keep releasing music — because they know how dedicated some of us are to our careers. Spotify is just toxic and bad for music and art in general. They expect us to keep playing their game while the CEO lounges in luxury.

"Spotify CEO, Daniel Ek, earned an estimated $345 million in the past year, primarily through the sale of Spotify shares. This amount surpasses the earnings of many top-selling artists on the platform. For instance, Taylor Swift, the most-streamed artist on Spotify, earned $103 million in royalties in 2024," according to Diario AS.

The real cherry on top is Spotify’s war against so-called “bot/artificial streams” — which has gotten completely out of control. Recently, my Artist Playlist was removed from my account. I had worked really hard on it, and it only had 42 followers. On Tuesday, I noticed it had disappeared from my profile, so I contacted their support, only to be told: “We don't have any more information to share, but we'll be here if you need help with anything else.”

—End of conversation. That’s it. 🙃

Spotify does this to keep label-backed artists on top, handing them editorial playlists so they can sit comfortably without worrying about their playlists being flagged by Spotify’s AI — because Spotify made them. Meanwhile, the rest of us are left to fill the platform with content, burning ourselves out while fighting to be seen.

And to make matters worse, we have our streams removed because they’ve “detected something” — yet they’re not willing to show us what that is. No transparency. No accountability.

Tried to report that my Artist Playlist disappeared from my Spotify profile — instead of help, I got the runaround. 😤

Started with Ryan (U.S. support), who was kind and genuinely tried to assist. We went through every step, even though I knew Spotify had silently disabled saving the playlist. After hitting a wall, he said he’d escalate it to “Customer Support” for deeper help…

Enter Uzma (off-shore support), who hit me with: “You should’ve received an email — there’s no more info I can share.”
When I said I never got anything… she straight up ended the conversation.
No resolution. No transparency. Just ghosted.💀

Spotify should remove the public display of listener counts and streams

It’s a catalyst for unhealthy comparisons. It creates misleading metrics like "monthly listeners” and incentivizes people to cheat so they can inflate the perception of popularity

Hiding the numbers would reduce the pressure to compete on inauthentic metrics and encourage a focus on the music itself. Look at Apple Music…there are 0 convos about how music is performing on there or if streams are fake…because you don’t know!! lmao as it should be

It’s nobody’s business how the music is performing outside of the artist and their team. We live in this weird time where everyone feels entitled to know everybody’s business because of social media

I get it tho, from Spotify perspective having the numbers public makes it a sport which in turn drives engagement etc etc
