EMPLOYEE DIES AT WORK AFTER REPORTEDLY PLEADING ILLNESS
Gcina Dhladhla, an employee at Cartrack’s head office in Rosebank, allegedly informed management that she was unwell and had been absent from work due to her condition. It is claimed that instead of receiving support, she was issued with a warning and faced disciplinary discussions regarding her attendance.
On Friday, she reportedly went to work after allegedly being threatened with dismissal if she failed to report for duty. At around 8:30am, she went to the bathroom and remained there for an unusually long time. Concerned, her team leader checked on her and, after receiving no response, called security to open the door.
Gcina was allegedly found unconscious on the bathroom floor. Reports claim she had removed some of her clothing because she felt extremely hot. It is further alleged that there were delays in getting medical assistance, with CPR being performed by people who were not trained first responders and an ambulance not being called immediately.
According to the report, a manager later went to a nearby hospital to request an ambulance. By the time emergency services arrived after 11:00am, following intervention from Gcina’s family, she had reportedly already passed away.
The incident has raised serious questions from her family, colleagues, and members of the public regarding the circumstances surrounding her death, the company’s response to her medical condition, and whether appropriate emergency procedures were followed.
