This is freshman law student-level of knowledge of ICC and its proceedings. Do not listen to lawyers who do not practice international law unless that are legit scholars. Gurl, sit down.
PGMN Anchor Atty. Regal Oliva addressed the @IntlCrimCourt proceedings involving former President @RRD_Davao, questioning the basis of its jurisdiction and the decision to deny interim release. She said that regardless of how the ICC frames its authority under the Rome Statute, the tension remains as Duterte is being heard by a foreign court while Philippine courts exist and continue to function. She maintained that accountability, if any, should proceed within local courts.
Oliva underscored the presumption of innocence, stating, โRodrigo Duterte remains an accused, not a convict.โ She added that Duterte did not hide or evade scrutiny and faced the process directly. She argued that given his age, physical condition, and global monitoring, the assertion of flight risk is unrealistic, and proof beyond reasonable doubt must first be established before any conviction.
