Dear fellow Labrador and dog lovers,
I hope this post is still welcomed here because I wanted to share something that’s been a big part of my life, to any new followers.
Like many of you, I’ve been lucky enough to know the love of an extraordinary dog. Bert, my Golden Labrador, was more than just a pet—he was my best friend, my gentle giant, and the kind of dog who could make you laugh and melt your heart at the same time.
I know you’ll understand the bond I’m talking about—that once-in-a-lifetime connection we’re so fortunate to experience. Bert was my "once." He came into my life by chance, on the edge of a Glasgow motorway one midnight, and turned my world upside down in the best possible way.
Losing him in 2020 left a hole that felt impossible to fill. But in my grief, I found myself writing down our adventures—his quirks, our bond, and the joy (and occasional chaos) of having him by my side. What began as a way to keep his memory alive eventually became a book: ‘The Life and Adventures of Bert.’
This isn’t just a book about a dog—it’s about everything that makes dogs like Bert so special. From our countryside escapades to the quiet moments of companionship, it’s a celebration of what it means to love a Labrador (or any dog).
Bert also gave me something unexpected: the realisation that my life isn’t complete without a dog. Today, his legacy lives on in Albert and Bera, my two Golden Labradors, who fill my days with new adventures, laughter, and reminders of why dogs are simply the best companions.
As a member of this community, I’m often here scrolling through posts—smiling at your dog stories, marvelling at beautiful dog photos, and finding comfort in the shared love we all have for these incredible animals. I’ve even shared pictures of Albert and Bera exploring the Scottish hills and beaches, inspired by Bert’s memory. This page feels like home, and that’s why I wanted to share this with you.
Now, with the festive season here, I humbly ask you to consider ‘The Life and Adventures of Bert’ as a small gift for yourself or a friend who loves dogs. It’s not for profit, but for preserving the memory of a dog who meant everything to me. Many readers have told me how it brought back memories of their own dogs, with smiles and a few tears along the way. I know many of you have supported the book and I'll be forever thankful to you for keeping his name and memory alive.
The book has over 280 reviews and a 4.8/5 rating on Amazon, so I hope you’ll feel it’s worth the read. And if you’ve ever had your life changed by a dog—or found yourself unable to imagine life without one—I think Bert’s story will resonate with you.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Whether you choose to give Bert’s story a place on your shelf or not, I’m just grateful to be part of a community that understands the joy and heartbreak of loving these wonderful animals.
Wishing you a Labrador-filled Christmas,
Ross
Shameless. I said one last time before i retire it, I'd push Bert's book for Christmas to new followers. Anyone able to retweet (not this but the original post) for me and help I'll be forever grateful... And I'll send one lucky person £1'000'000 - secretly. Thank you friends

Today we’re remembering George Michael who died on Christmas Day seven years ago.
George was a massively impactful HIV campaigner and advocate.
It’s brilliant news that Wham!’s Last Christmas is this year’s Christmas number one. George, you are missed.

@autcareandshare Passport control is very badly organised at Faro, queues are long and slow. But we found the officials a great help! Enjoy your holiday
