Military assets can be reassigned from an Aid to the Civil Authority task to a defence/security task at any time because it's a higher priority. Refitting aircraft is standard practice when you have a limited number of airframes doing multiple roles

Of course you can do more/different things with different aircraft but that's a very different and much longer conversation

As part of tomorrow’s Centenary ceremony, there will be a mass flypast review of @IrishAirCorps aircraft.
Cast your eyes to the skies at approx 1100hrs, when the flypast will route along the River Liffey to Dublin Bay before returning to Baldonnel.
