If you've recently relocated to the blue place (or are considering it) and want to expedite the process of building up your list of follows, I made a thing to help with that:

@neoavatara They think the science is undecided and want a M.D. who shares their skepticism. These seem to exist. Or else it’s docs feigning skepticism to court these folks.
@LAChas77 I have a friend who occasionally hosts nerdy board game nights. Sometimes go out with former coworkers for pub trivia. That’s about it, other than dates with spouse.
@auren "then they show up to their first job and have to learn everything from scratch"
"everything" is an overstatement here. For instance, I didn't have to learn to read on the job. Or to do basic math. Or to write computer code, at a conceptual level.
@PTrubey The problem is that many employers expect a degree for roles that (arguably) don't require one. Granted, if all colleges suddenly became much more selective (which would necessitate many of them closing) then employers would have to relax their signaling requirements.
@ImColbyLyons In my experience they do like the idea of people choosing what form of education their children receive. They just think their form (classical) is the "best" form.
@JohnLeePettim13 My grandfather put himself through college working during the depression working as a caddie. Lived in a boarding house and only owned like two pairs of pants.
My dad also went to college; his parents were an auto mechanic and school teacher.
@JohnLeePettim13 Dunno, man. My mom's parents were an accountant and homemaker. My mom and her two siblings all went to college (in-state public schools) and it wasn't a huge financial challenge.

@AlexanderTurok@allie__voss@RichardHanania For the sake of argument:
1. It's wrong to kill children, even if they are cognitively impaired and/or have the potential to develop health problems later in life.
2. The fetus is credibly a child.
@dilanesper If 30% of *known* Downs pregnancies aren't terminated, then that seems not too far off the share of Americans who are hard-core pro-life. Right?
@TheSpectator Average net price at privates isn't 70k/year. Families that don't qualify for any financial aid *always* have options that cost less than 70k/year.
@teachermother1 Certainly wasn't any at the large, public research institution I attended. The small liberal arts college my kid attends had a one-hour "send off" group meeting/ceremony for parents.
@StealthyGains Confounding: you can go to medical or law school with any bachelor's degree. Also, some industry roles (sales, e.g.) require "a bachelor's degree" but don't care what it's in.
