🚨Rashee Rice
Finally some information, but wait it’s conflicting!
Of course it is, nothing about Rice’s injury has been straightforward. So why start now!
Rapport: “Rice needs his LCL repaired, but there is a chance that is the only ligament that needs to be repaired.”
Schefter: “After consulting today with doctors, there's "a lot of optimism" that standout WR Rashee Rice didn't suffer a knee injury as significant as first believed, per source. Rice will be put under anesthesia Tuesday to determine the extent of his injury.
It's unlikely that Chiefs WR Rashee Rice will play again this season, but doctors will not know for sure until they perform surgery Tuesday morning.”
Alright so an isolated LCL injury is a SUPER RARE knee injury, making up only 2% of all knee injuries.
The angle Mahomes hit Rice’s knee correlates with an LCL and a PLC (posterolateral corner) injury. There is also a possibility that Rice’s ACL (or his PCL) is compromised as well, as that would make more sense.
If LCL surgery is necessary, which means it is a full thickness tear, then a reconstruction is preferred over repair due to the high risk of failure for repair (up to 40%).
There’s a lot more info for this injury, so I broke down this complicated injury here for @InjuryExpertz
