BITTER BREW: Tim Hortons says it's hiring Canadians again — but these GTA stores still favour foreign workers 🍁

Rebel News recently dropped by a couple of Tim Hortons stores in the Greater Toronto Area — one in North Toronto and one in Aurora.

We didn’t pay a visit to grab a cup of coffee or a box of Timbits. Rather, we were there to prove that Tim Hortons recently served up a whopper of a lie.

Tims, which is owned by a Brazilian hedge fund called 3G Capital, has faced growing pressure to change its hiring practices. Despite being Canada’s largest foodservice company, Tim’s has been exploiting the Temporary Foreign Worker Program to hire noncitizens.

Alas, Tims has suffered some bad PR due to these hiring practices. And so it was that Tims went into damage control mode recently. Tims' CEO publicly stated that the company is going to go back to hiring Canadian workers again.

That’s fantastic news! Except for one hitch: It’s fake news.

That’s because the CEO was lying through his teeth. Indeed, he recently personally registered as a lobbyist to keep Canada's immigration laws as loose as possible — so that Tim’s could continue exploiting the TFW Program.

While the company claims it is now hiring Canadians, Tims is STILL all-in when it comes to hiring cheap foreign labour. As if a multi-billion-dollar foodservice conglomerate needs corporate welfare in the first place!

And yes, we have the proof. It’s right there in black and white on the federal government's Temporary Foreign Worker Program website. There are some 90 active Tim Hortons jobs from coast to coast up for grabs. Clearly, Tim’s is still hiring foreigners rather than Canadians, despite their false pronouncements.

This company is shameless. Sure, Tim Hortons likes to wrap itself in the Maple Leaf. Yes, it’s delighted to sell food and beverages to Canadians. It just doesn’t like to hire Canadian citizens.

It’s outrageous. With so many people unemployed, with youth unemployment at record levels, and with the summer job becoming a thing of the past, does Tims' strategy seem ethically or morally right to you?

We wonder what the dearly departed legendary hockey player that the chain is named after would say about this sad state of affairs?

P.S. Check out the streeters we did. While many customers condemned Tim Hortons, others wanted to shoot the messenger, deeming our campaign "racist." Those people, by the way, self-identified as supporters of the Mark Carney Liberals. To which we say, golly, whatever happened to “elbows up”?

Prime Minister Carney’s address to the European Parliament in Strasbourg rested on several foundational errors.

The claim that freedom was won “thanks to the heroism of the European resistance” is historically false. Western Europe was liberated by the armed forces of the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada. The subsequent emancipation of the Soviet empire was the product of the American strategy of containment. Canada’s role was particularly notable: a volunteer force from a country that had never been attacked or threatened by the Axis powers.

The European institutions have succeeded in reducing internal economic barriers and managing inter-state cooperation. As an economic administration, however, they have not been a success at all. In 2008 the GDP of Europe and the United States were roughly equal; the United States now stands at 140 percent of the EU’s. Much of this relative decline is attributable to the prolonged suppression of fossil fuels—an agenda Carney himself promoted for years.

Carney also omitted the decisive commercial reality: Canada sends roughly 70 percent of its exports to the United States (98% of which is unaffected by the recent tariffs) and only 6 percent to Europe. The United States accounts for half of the Canadian economy; Canada accounts for three percent of theirs. These proportions are not altered by elaborate metaphors about the transplantation of trees between Vimy and Milliken.

Until Canada recovers the relative prosperity it enjoyed with the United States a decade ago, there is little strategic sense in the prime minister travelling to the Rhine to deliver a wistful reflection on the failure of Canada and Europe to produce a superior political ethos while remaining economically competitive.

Ruba Ghazal et la désinformation: le mensonge comme tentative ultime de sauver les meubles

Deux affirmations mensongères et très dangereuses pour notre climat social ont été formulées par Ruba Ghazal et je désire que le plus grand nombre dans notre société québécoise en prenne conscience.

La première a eu lieu la semaine dernière lorsque madame Ghazal sous-entendait que notre chef PSPP exclut les immigrants de deuxième génération de la définition de Québécois : « Moi, j’ai une question pour M. Paul St-Pierre Plamondon : c’est qui pour lui les Québécois ? Tout le monde est Québécois. Il faut arrêter ce discours de division ». Je vous invite à visionner son point de presse, il a affirmé que l’augmentation fulgurante du nombre d’élèves dans la région de Québec provenait de l’augmentation importante du nombre de temporaires sur le territoire. Il a clairement affirmé qu’il ne blâmait aucunement les personnes issues de l’immigration mais bien les mauvaises politiques publiques de la CAQ et du PLC qui ne tiennent nullement compte de notre capacité d'accueil. Il n’a jamais été question de première ou deuxième génération durant le point de presse. Une des études du centre de service scolaire qui faisait le lien entre la hausse de l’immigration et la hausse d'élèves utilisait une donnée de première et deuxième génération d’immigration, mais cette étude ne vient pas du Parti Québécois et n'a rien à voir avec les propos de PSPP. Radio-Canada est venu par la suite confirmer que suivant plusieurs sources, 100% de l’augmentation fulgurante du nombre d'élèves à Québec provient de l’immigration des dernières années. En laissant croire faussement que notre chef distinguait les Québécois issus de l’immigration comme n’étant pas des Québécois, Ruba Ghazal savait qu’elle induisait la population en erreur et qu’elle tenait des propos qui pouvaient gravement nuire au dialogue social et à la confiance dans ce dialogue.

Hier, Ruba Ghazal a récidivé en affirmant que PSPP prônait des politiques «natalistes» conservatrices. Plus tôt cette année, elle avait affirmée que PSPP était « un politicien pour dire aux femmes pourquoi elles font le choix d’avoir un enfant ou pas », après qu’il se soit penché sur la crise du logement et les facteurs qui peuvent influencer le taux de natalité et la décision de chaque couple d’avoir ou non des enfants. Il s’agit d’un autre épisode induit ses lecteurs en erreur en créant un climat de peur et de méfiance, dans l’espoir d’extirper un petit profit politique. Hier, PSPP a simplement proposé de bonifier les allocations familiales destinées au 3e et 4e enfant parce que les coûts reliés à ces troisièmes et quatrièmes, par exemple changer de véhicule pour acheter une mini-van, sont plus grands. Il a aussi annoncé des mesures en soutien au 3e et 4e cycle de fécondation in vitro (un dossier mené par Marwah Rizqy) et des mesures de soutien aux couples qui vivent un deuil périnatal. Les allocations familiales par enfant existent au Québec depuis 1967. Le fait de bonifier la prestation pour les 3e et 4e enfants pour refléter le coût réel de s’adapter à une famille plus nombreuse n’a absolument rien à voir avec une politique nataliste conservatrice qui tenterait d’exercer un contrôle du corps des femmes et de leur autonomie. Ruba Ghazal le sait très bien.

Si nous voulons une élection fondée sur les propositions de chaque parti, il faut cesser la politique négative et les campagnes de désinformation qui se font au détriment de la santé de notre débat démocratique. Je demande à madame Ghazal de bien vouloir corriger le ton la suite, nous sommes capables de relever le débat et de s’affronter sur la base de nos idées et de nos propositions uniquement. German political writer David Brough says he was beaten, insulted, ostracized and mistreated “every day” by Muslim classmates while attending school in Wuppertal, Western Germany, claiming they targeted him because he was German, gay and refused to “submit to Sharia.”

Brough says that when he reported homophobic attacks and abuse to a school guidance counselor, he was told: “David, we are a school of diversity. You just have to endure it. You have to tolerate other cultural conditions. And in Islam, being gay is haram, a sin.”

Calling his former school a “Sharia school,” Brough said that conditions in German schools have since become even worse and accused German politicians of abandoning children in the name of diversity, saying: “The worst part is that they sold out our children.”

After a win she posted a photo of her hands. That was enough. Her Muslim husband accused her of bringing shame on his family. He tortured her to death, smashed her head into the floor, broke her limbs and crushed her body. This was not a fight that “got out of hand.” He treated her as property. She succeeded. She enjoyed too much freedom. He killed her for it.
