Today, I had the privilege of welcoming the leadership team from Airtel Uganda, headed by Managing Director Mr Soumendra Sahu, to @UCC_Official headquarters.
We came together to celebrate a significant milestone: Airtel Uganda’s contribution of UGX 42.9 billion, marking their 2% statutory gross annual revenue payment to the Commission.
This isn't just a box-ticking exercise; it’s a testament to the vibrancy of Uganda’s telecom industry. Last year, this figure stood at UGX 37.9 billion, reflecting a thriving business environment nurtured by sound government policies and progressive regulations.
While businesses focus on their bottom line, our government prioritises digital inclusion, ensuring no one gets left behind in this fast-paced digital world.
That’s where the 2% levy comes in, playing a transformative role. Half of the funds go directly to the National Consolidated Fund, while the other half supports the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF).
This fund drives national development, extending essential ICT infrastructure to underserved rural areas, where commercial investments often hesitate.
It enables ICT integration in education and agriculture, champions digital skills training at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology (UICT) in Nakawa, promotes digital inclusion for Persons with Disabilities, and distributes smart devices to marginalised communities.
This is more than just meeting legal obligations; it's about embodying corporate citizenship. Airtel Uganda has demonstrated that this responsibility is a shared investment in our nation’s future.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Airtel Uganda for their partnership and commitment to national progress. Together, we are crafting a more connected and inclusive Uganda, opening doors to endless digital opportunities for every citizen.
This morning, @Airtel_Ug has handed over 2% of its Gross Annual Revenues to the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (#UCUSAF), a fund created & managed by @UCC_Official to expand communication and internet access to underserved and unserved communities across Uganda.
The contribution will support ongoing efforts to strengthen digital inclusion and connectivity nationwide.

This major intersection within Kampala Industrial & Business Park (KIBP) - Namanve is being built to support the growing network of factories & industries in the park while connecting seamlessly to the busy Kampala–Jinja Highway.
By streamlining traffic flow, it will reduce congestion, improve access for manufacturers & keep goods moving faster from production lines to markets.

SP @KawalaRachael "The Kampala Metropolitan Police has noted with concern a video circulating on social media showing a group of men scaling a perimeter fence and violently assaulting an individual within the premises.
The identity and whereabouts of the victim are not yet known. We urge the person seen being assaulted, or anyone with relevant information about the incident, to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
A preliminary review of the footage has enabled investigators to identify one of the suspected assailants, and efforts are currently underway to have him arrested.
We strongly warn members of the public against engaging in acts of lawlessness and mob justice. Such conduct is criminal and will not be tolerated. All individuals involved will be traced and dealt with in accordance with the law.
Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
Mechanization is transforming rural livelihoods.
Robert Abigaba, a farmer in Kijura Village, opened 16 acres in just 1 day using tractor services from Kijura SACCO Ltd under the Local Economic Growth Support (LEGS) Project. At only UGX 120,000, he saved UGX 840,000 that would have gone to manual labor.
Impact: timely planting, increased yields, improved household incomes, and stronger SACCO membership, driving socio-economic transformation. #LEGSProject #MSC #Agriculture #SACCOs

In a productive meeting with @MEMD_Uganda, DAS Troutman congratulated the PermSec on their progress towards first oil, advocated for U.S. private sector involvement and best practices to the oil and critical mineral sectors. As the 🇺🇸 places greater emphasis on commercial diplomacy, we are focused on advancing real deals that mutually benefit both Ugandans and Americans.
