7/ Belonging without character is not enough. Law without life is not enough. What flourishes us is both: the world as gift, a life you must grow into, and the neighbor as image of God, not enemy.
I heard someone say โrip Joseph Campbellโ and thought he died, bought some of his books only to recall that he died in 1987 lol, but Power of Myth was a gamechanger for me in undergrad so I want to revisit him with my more mature perspective 10 years later. Thoughts after reading the intro of Goddesses, a ๐งต:
6/ Christianity can restore balance without dumping the Father. God takes a body. He comes through the Mother Mary. Love fulfills the law. The Bible ends with reconciliation and the Tree of Life given back.
Big data companies should compete more to block each other from grabbing unnecessary personal data instead of being complicit. We will be the stronger nation for having individual privacy and property rights sanctified, no one stands a chance against our guns and dignity if we donโt compromise with the temptation for more control.
They do seem to have laws or policies in place where for example they scan your inbox to give you package tracking updates but arenโt allowed to look at other stuff and itโs usually like bots with specific purposes but def opens the door for abuse. Itโs harder for innovation when we donโt open our data to bots, but those bots should be owned by us when operating on our data ts
The Basque Country feels socialist โ murals, co-ops, txokos, a seemingly collectivist society. Look at the machinery and itโs something else.
Mondragon: 71,000 worker-owners, founded by a priest in 1956, competing in open markets, not centrally planned with state redistribution. The Concierto Econรณmico: the right to collect their own taxes and remit a negotiated payment to Madrid, dating to 1878 and rooted in medieval charters.
Thatโs not socialism. Itโs subsidiarity โ capitalism with ownership pushed down and fiscal authority held local, defended against a centralizing state.
The identification with a history of violence against tyranny does conflate itself with a Marxist strand. ETA took the Marxist-Leninist line in the late 60s and killed some 850 people over four decades. It built nothing. The co-ops and the tax charter โ which predate it and owe it nothing โ built everything people admire when they visit.
Donโt conflate them. The warmth isnโt the ideology. Itโs a nation that never handed over its own accounts.
We keep arguing socialism vs capitalism when itโs really a combo that works: largely free market enterprise with collectivist characteristics that regulates against aloof stakeholders owning your private property and local coordination.
Ownership stays with the people doing the work, and bloated government is bad whether it wears leftist or rightist clothes.
