We were inspired by @DKnightIngram to also adopt an @ICPSR dataset for #LoveData21
This study spoke to my 11 y.o. officemate, specifically variable A22F_G5 in recognition of all the 5th grade PE we've done at home together this year! https://t.co/uVeLYy2Cw3
I'm quite intentional in not getting personal on Twitter, but as a former teacher, and the sister of a teacher who teaches students in-person and online, and in a part of Georgia where she was given no choice in the matter, this thread is everything <3
I truly don't think enough can be said about the work teachers have done over the past several months. Some teaching online *and* in person. Making lesson plans for both. Some caring for their own children and relatives while they teach. They deserve both praise and better pay.
When it comes to academic research, it's important for faculty to remember that we work at institutions of "higher education" not "higher productivity." I love getting stuff done, but it should never be at the expense of people and their opportunity to learn and grow.
@dekalblibrary Dear DCPL, it would be awesome if y'all could setup an online system for contact-free pickups. Calling a branch to arrange is hit or miss lately. Love, a devoted library card holder since 2011
Aaaaand now I'm on Twitter for election updates...that's probably not a good sign of how I'm handling all this uncertainty. But GTK Warnock also eats pizza with a fork and knife.
With regard to anti-racist reading list, I think political education is important. I think historical texts that help people understand how we arrived in this moment are important. But people should be clear that these texts are an entry point, not the end of the work itself.
Just watched LITTLE WOMEN and my prime takeaways are that love is the foundation of the human experience and that we should backup our documents into the cloud in case they are burned in a fire.
#Emory researcher Vicki Hertzberg’s study of germ transmission while flying is getting lots of news coverage due to the #Coronavirus outbreak. Downloads of her data in Emory #Dataverse jumped from 14 to 71 in the last 3 weeks, a 407% increase! https://t.co/wIGp0dI6gg #lovedata20
We still have a few seats! And there will be a waiting list, if you're one of the first on it, then (based on our previous workshops) it's very likely you will get a spot.

It's been an honor to play a small role in curating the Voyages database by preserving the canonical dataset in the Emory Dataverse hosted @Odum_Institute
https://t.co/RFpmiUzGS5
Data comes in all shapes and sizes. Voyages, #Emory’s pioneering scholarly database on the trans-Atlantic slave trade, contains data from historical records and publications found in libraries and archives. https://t.co/0qQ4ruHbtl #lovedata19
It is chilling just to scan the dataset codebook but especially moved by variable "NAME: CHOICE OF NAME" to see percentage of former slaves who rejected masters' names #lovedata19#adoptadataset
"Quantitative Data Coded from the Federal Writers' Project Slave Narratives, United States, 1936-1938" provides a lens into lived experiences of 2,358 slaves, including 168 who were enslaved in Georgia #lovedata19#adoptadataset
